CMU- Leading Information Technology from the USA

In recent years, improving the quality of teaching has long been one of top issues of the Vietnamese education system. There have been several conferences and seminars held to search for the best solution. It is said that expanding relationships with foreign institutions is feasible and effective. At Duy Tan University, this has now become the number one objective. From 2008 to 2009, DTU collaborated with SEG to be an official Vietnamese partner of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), a leading American university in Information Technology.

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) was founded in 1967 by the merger of the Carnegie Institute of Technology and the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research. It is one of top universities in the USA and has been awarded 18 Nobel Prizes. According to a 2008 US News report, CMU was ranked the best USA university in Computer Science and Information Systems, while its program in Computer Techniques was ranked second. CMU’s strength in IT is attributed to a group of scientists working for the US Ministry of Defense and the US government in its Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT). 7 ACM Turing Awards have been presented to CMU scientists so far. CMU is supported by Intel, Apple, Google and Boeing, all of whom have labs on the CMU campus. In 2005, Microsoft donated $20m to erect a new building for the CMU School of Computer Science.

In the new academic year 2012-2013, DTU is offering the following CMU programs at the university level:

  • Bachelor of Information Technology (102 CMU)
  • Bachelor  of Information Systems (410 CMU)

And, at the college level:

  • Bachelor of Information Technology (C67 CMU)
Students will have the opportunity to study and do research under the supervision of qualified DTU lecturers. Visiting CMU lecturers will come to DTU to teach some of their majors. A big advantage of taking the CMU programs is that DTU students are eligible to pay a discounted fee of 18 million VND per year, instead of the normal 30 million VND. However, this discount will only be refunded when the minimum work salary of students after graduation is at least $500 per month. After completion, graduates will receive 18 to 22 internationally recognized certificates of accomplishment. They will also have opportunity to continue their studies at CMU after two years at DTU.

To be accepted to study CMU programs, students have to pass the MOET university entrance examination. Test will be held at DTU on:

1st period: 15th April, 2012

2nd period: 11th July, 2012

At 182 Nguyen Van Linh St., Danang.
