DTU/Penn State University -The Most Advanced American-Based Economics Program in Vietnam

Concurrent with its mission to develop DTU’s campuses and facilities, the DTU Board of Rectors has been making great efforts to improve the quality of learning by expanding educational partnerships with foreign universities.

In 2008, DTU and certain members of SEG Vietnam signed an agreement with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), one of the four top US universities in IT. Then, in 2010, a signing ceremony was held between DTU and Penn State University (PSU) that launched yet another important new official partnership.

PSU is 150 years old, and one of the top five public universities in the USA, with 100,000 students studying at 24 campuses. It is ranked 17th in scientific research studies in America, Asia and Europe and PSU is ranked 51st   worldwide overall. PSU’s programs in Business Administration and Accounting are approved by the AACBS (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). Under the agreement, PSU will transfer their original curricula to DTU and will send lecturers to Vietnam to teach business courses.

These programs combine theoretical and practical knowledge to help students easily adapt to the demands of the labor market. According to a new corporate survey, there is a strong demand for new employees’ who have specialized in problem solving, negotiation, presentation and behavioral skills. Students who enroll in the PSU programs will be trained to be knowledgeable enough in these basic skills to successfully find good jobs.

In the academic year 2013-2014, DTU will offer the following PSU programs at the university level:

·         Bachelor of Business Administration (400 PSU)

·         Bachelor of Finance and Banking (404 PSU)

·         Bachelor of Accounting (405 PSU)

And, at the college level:

·         Bachelor of Accounting and Auditing (C66 PSU)

·         Bachelor (College level) of Banking (C70 PSU)

Students will have opportunity to study and conduct research under the supervision of qualified DTU lecturers, in a dynamic environment providing state of the art materials and discussions in English. The curricula and materials for the 42 courses in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and Banking will be transferred from PSU to DTU. On completion of the program, graduates will receive 18 to 24 internationally recognized certificates of accomplishment. They will also have the opportunity to continue their studies at PSU in the US after their first two years at DTU. Tuition fees range from only 16 million VND per year (about $800) down to 1 million VND per credit ($50) for those studying 6 credits, so this program will be affordable for many students.

Dr. Tran Hong Quan, a former minister of MOET said: “The DTU Board of Directors made a good decision in expanding their overseas partnerships. This has helped improve the quality of learning in Vietnam and created a new skilled labor force for our society”.

To be accepted to study PSU programs, students must pass the MOET university entrance examination. Tests will be held at DTU on:

1st period: 12th April, 2013

2nd period: 12th July, 2013
