Seminar on Project-based Teaching for DTU Lecturers

On November 5th 2010, DTU held a seminar on the Project-based Teaching Method for all lecturers, in response to an innovative educational strategy initiated by MOET, to be implemented by Vietnamese universities between 2010-2012.

Dr. Vo Thanh Hai presents some teaching methods at the seminar

At the seminar, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, DTU Vice Rector, stressed the importance of implementing project-based teaching at DTU now. He emphasized: “As DTU is planning a practical education strategy, it is imperative to improve students’ practical skills. Project-based teaching is one important way for us to achieve this goal, as it not only helps students improve their self-study skills but also teaches them how to work in a team”.

Mr. Truong Tien Vu and Mr. Nguyen Duc Man, two lecturers in DTU’s international programs shared some experiences in adopting the project-based teaching method used at Carnegie Mellon University in the USA. Mr. Man said: “To be successful, we must enhance students’ self-awareness and increase the professional and practical experience of our lecturers. Expanding collaboration with local companies is something else we should focus on”.

Project-based teaching is widely practiced at most universities overseas, although it is still a new concept to most Vietnamese universities. “With a young and dynamic teaching staff, hopefully we can implement project-based teaching soon” said Dr. Vo Thanh Hai.
