Demonstrating their talent, determination, and impressive public speaking skills in Chinese, DTU students won a Third and a Consolation prize in the final round of the National Chinese Speech Contest 2024 held at DTU on November 23, 2024. The competition was jointly held by the city’s Union of Friendship Organizations in collaboration with the Consulate General of China in Da Nang, Vietnam Television Center for Central and Central Highlands (VTV8), Duy Tan University, University of Foreign Languages - University of Danang, and other relevant organizations.
DTU student Nguyen Thanh Dam confidently competes in the eloquence category
The Contest aims to strengthen the Vietnam-China friendship and promote the Chinese language learning movement among young people in Vietnam.
With the theme “The role of the young generation of Viet Nam in promoting the Viet Nam-China friendship”, the contest’s organisers received more than 250 quality entries from 40 universities, academies, and Chinese language centres in 18 provinces and centrally-governed cities. After two preliminary rounds, the 32 best contestants from 29 institutions entered the final round. The finalists competed in the categories of eloquence, talent performance, and top 9 final question-and-answer round.

With impressive performances, two DTU students, Nguyen Thanh Dam won the Third Prize, and Le Thi Ngoc Lan received the Consolation prize.
Nguyen Thanh Dam is currently a fourth-year student majoring in Chinese Language at DTU. In his speech with the theme " The role of the young generation of Viet Nam in promoting the Viet Nam-China friendship," Thanh Dam emphasized that the younger generation was the bridge for cultural exchange and pioneers in education and technology. His presentation also made an impression with a real-life story about his experience as a tour guide, introducing Vietnamese culture to Chinese tourists. In the talent section, Thanh Dam sang the song named “Bá H? Thuy?t,” combining opera singing and rap, creating a unique and captivating performance.

at DTU for the Finals of the 2024 National Chinese Speaking Contest
“I spent nearly a month preparing for the contest, and thanks to the knowledge I gained over four years at DTU, along with the support from my teachers, I was able to perform well in the competition. I chose to study Chinese language at DTU because of my passion for Chinese language and culture. Additionally, I also see the growing cooperation between Vietnam and China in economy, tourism, and education, which will offer young people with many career opportunities. I feel lucky to be studying in a field that suits my abilities and interests, and to be learning in a dynamic, high-quality educational environment like DTU - where I can pursue my passions, gain knowledge, and develop comprehensively,” Thanh Dam shared.
In 2023, Thanh Dam won a full CIS scholarship and spent one year studying at the Capital Normal University (Beijing), an eye-opening experience and affirmed his future direction. Thanh Dam plans to apply for a Master's Scholarship in China in 2025 to continue his journey of professional development upon graduation.
Another DTU student, Le Thi Ngoc Lan, a fourth-year student majoring in Chinese Language, won a Consolation prize. In her speech, Ngoc Lan highlighted the role of the youth in cultural exchange and volunteerism, especially the students of Chinese language, by using the language to connect cultures and people. In the Talent category, Ngoc Lan sang the song named “??” (Tham Song), combining singing and traditional Chinese opera, showcasing deep elements of Chinese culture.
Ngoc Lan said: "This competition marks an important milestone in my journey of personal growth, helping me realize the importance of challenging myself. With my passion for the Chinese language and culture, I dream of becoming an excellent interpreter or tour guide, contributing to promoting the beauty of Vietnam to the world. For me, Chinese is not only a communication tool but also a bridge for cultural exchange, helping me develop personally and make a contribution to the multicultural community.”
