Speaking at the event, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that, in line with the Party and State’s policy on educational reform, the Prime Minister signed the decision to establish Duy Tan University in 1994, one of the first five people-founded universities in the country during this new era.

Overcoming numerous challenges, Duy Tan University has continually grown and made significant contributions to training the workforce for Da Nang, the central and Central Highlands regions, and the nation as a whole.

The establishment and development of Duy Tan University have helped reshape the public-private structure within the higher education system, transforming the landscape of university education. It has created numerous jobs for scientists and provided educational opportunities for many students, contributing to educational reform and supplying skilled human resources for national development over the past 30 years.

The transition to university model represents a choice of organizational and governance model, showcasing both maturity and an internal drive for new growth.

"The shift from the organizational model of a university to that of a comprehensive university should generate new driving forces, unleash creativity, and foster new energies for faster and stronger development in the future. The government and the Ministry of Education and Training support this choice of development model by facilitating the procedures to transition to new model," affirmed Minister Nguyen Kim Son.

Acknowledging and highly appreciating the achievements DTU has gained over the past 30 years, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang, Le Trung Chinh, stated: As Duy Tan University celebrates its 30th anniversary, Da Nang is also focusing on implementing Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on urban governance and piloting specific mechanisms and policies to promote the city’s development. This is one of the key directions for the city’s socio-economic development in the coming period.

Da Nang has consistently identified human resource development, particularly high-quality talent, as a key factor in building the city into an eco-friendly, modern, and smart urban center with a distinctive identity and international stature.

This means that thorough preparation is needed to further enhance the quality of education, meeting the increasing demands of the economy and societal development.

" Specifically, the city urges Duy Tan University in particular, along with other higher education and vocational institutions in the area, to place greater emphasis on scientific research, delivering practical projects and innovations, joining the city in pioneering fields, contributing to making Da Nang a livable, civilized, and modern city. The city of Da Nang will continue to support and create favorable conditions for Duy Tan University to grow and make meaningful contributions to the city’s development," proposed Mr. Le Trung Chinh.

Duy Tan University was founded on November 11, 1994, under Decision No. 666/QÐ-TTg issued on November 11, 1994, by the Prime Minister. It was one of the first five people-founded universities in Vietnam and the first people-founded university in Central Vietnam.

In 2015, the institution transitioned to a private university model following Decision No. 1704/QÐ-TTg, issued on October 2, 2015, by the Prime Minister. In October 2024, the Government issued Decision No. 1115/QÐ-TTg on October 7, 2024, to transition DTU to university model, making it one of only eight universities in Vietnam and the first (and only, to date) private higher education institution in Vietnam to be granted this status.
