Seventeen Vietnamese universities have made it into the QS Asia University Rankings, with Duy Tan University leading the list. Both Vietnam National Universities improved their rankings, while Ton Duc Thang University saw a significant decline.
On November 6, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the QS Asia University Rankings 2025, featuring 17 Vietnamese universities, an increase of two from the previous edition, with Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Vinh University joining the list.
Duy Tan University continues to lead among Vietnamese institutions, ranking 127th. Both Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, made significant improvements, ranking 161st and 184th, respectively. Meanwhile, Ton Duc Thang University experienced a sharp decline.
In the 300-500 ranking group, Nguyen Tat Thanh University ranked 333rd, Hue University 348th, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City 369th, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology 388th. Both Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education and the University of Danang are placed in the 421-430 range. The University of Transport and Communications and Van Lang University are in the 481-490 and 491-500 brackets, respectively.
Lower-ranked institutions include Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Hanoi National University of Education, and Vinh University.
Compared to last year, Ton Duc Thang University experienced the steepest drop, falling 61 positions. Meanwhile, Van Lang University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry showed the most significant progress, climbing more than 200 places.

The latest QS Asia University Rankings feature 984 universities from 29 countries and territories. Among the nine criteria used, academic reputation holds the highest weight at 30%, followed by citation count at 20%. Other factors include employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, internationalization, international research network, employment outcomes, and sustainability, each accounting for approximately 5-15%.
The top 10 universities include four from mainland China, three from Hong Kong, two from Singapore, and one from South Korea. The top four positions remain unchanged from last year: Peking University, the University of Hong Kong, the National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University. The remaining six are Fudan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Yonsei University, and the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK).

QS is one of the three renowned university ranking organizations, alongside Times Higher Education (THE) and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
In May, THE released its 2024 Asia University Rankings, featuring six Vietnamese institutions. Among the familiar names, Ton Duc Thang University ranked 193rd, Duy Tan University was in the 201-300 range, Vietnam National University, Hanoi was in the 501-600 range, and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City was in the 601+ range. All these universities dropped approximately 100-200 places compared to the previous ranking.
The ARWU ranking does not include any Vietnamese representatives.
