Participating in the 'Study at Yeungnam' Say Award competition organized by Yeungnam University, Dang Thi Thuy Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai - students from the English Department, DTU Faculty of Linguistics and Social Sciences (FLSS) - clinched two first prizes in this exciting competition.

Not only did they gain a wealth of specialized knowledge and cultural exchange opportunities, but DTU students participating in the Global Student Exchange Scholarship Program at Yeungnam University in South Korea also enjoyed many fun and enriching activities at the school.

Dang Thi Thuy Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai are two DTU students participating in the Global Student Exchange Program at Yeungnam University in South Korea. The program attracted numerous students from around the world, including the Netherlands, Mexico, Russia, the United States, China, and Japan. With a diverse student body from all over the world, Yeungnam University organized the Say Award 'Study at Yeungnam' competition for students to share their experiences studying at the university.

Under the theme "Memories as an exchange student at Yeungnam University," the two DTU students completely captivated the judges with their stories and beautiful memories during their studies there. Their fluent presentation in English and personal confidence in front of the audience helped both Dang Thi Thuy Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai secure first place in the competition.

Dang Thi Thuy Ngoc: Experience at Yeungnam University helped strengthen my dream of becoming an excellent English teacher

Thuy Ngoc, naturally introverted and rarely participating in social activities, was born into a family of three siblings in Da Nang City and has always been the obedient youngest daughter who diligently studies.

However, when choosing DTU for her university journey with a major in English Translation and Interpretation, she underwent a transformation, becoming very dynamic and participating actively in various union activities, charity activities, and becoming an outstanding student. Throughout her three years at DTU, the courageous young woman consistently maintained an excellent academic record and was fortunate to be selected for the Global Student Exchange Scholarship Program at Yeungnam University.

"Introduced to join the HTi’s Volunteers club of the Hospitality and Tourism Student Union (HTi) by my seniors, initially I was a bit hesitant, but later on, meeting enthusiastic seniors and participating in numerous exchange, learning, and charity programs, I found myself passionate about performing small acts of charity for those in need. Since then, my life has been filled with many vibrant colors and truly happy," Thuy Ngoc shared.

Always striving to explore many other strengths, Thuy Ngoc has achieved many accomplishments in academics and social activities such as:

•    Full scholarship from the International Student Exchange Scholarship Program at Yeungnam University, South Korea,
•    Diamond Award of the "30-day Translation Challenge" contest by Ivolunteer Vietnam in 2022,
•    "Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Words" award at DTU in 2023,
•    "Youth Dedication to Community" national level award in 2024,
•    Impressive Award at the "Dream of becoming a Global Leader with Yeungnam University" competition in 2024,
•    First Prize in the Say Award "Study at Yeungnam" competition in 2024.

Thuy Ngoc said: "Studying with lecturers from DTU as well as Yeungnam University - passionate individuals with extensive knowledge, I became more determined to realize my dream of becoming a teacher after graduation. For me, studying in South Korea is truly a great fortune in my youth. Living and studying in a country with a longstanding culture with many activities and deepening my understanding of the Korean language is very interesting as I have had the opportunity to learn about different cultures of international friends, as well as develop my English skills every day in an educational environment that highly respects differences."

Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai: "Traveling to Korea with the "winning formula" of hunting scholarships

Born in 2002, GenZ girl Thanh Hai grew up in a family of three siblings in Thach Ha, Ha Tinh. The unconditional sacrifice of her parents to provide education and support to their children in every choice has always made Thanh Hai feel grateful and determined to try her best so that her family can feel secure about her.

Thanh Hai's dream of going to Korea has come true through immense efforts in studying

Passionate about traveling like many young friends who love to travel and wanting to conquer new routes and famous landmarks both inside and outside the country, Thanh Hai made efforts in studying and working to realize her dreams. It was fortunate that the little girl had the opportunity to "travel freely" to South Korea - the dream destination of many young people, completely free with the "winning formula" of hunting scholarships from Duy Tan University's International Student Exchange Scholarship Program.

With the strength of rapid foreign language learning ability, alongside her main major in English Translation and Interpretation at DTU, Thanh Hai is now learning Chinese as a second language and is also studying Korean as a third language to integrate well into life with native people in the Daegu and Yeungnam areas while studying at Yeungnam University.

Along with continuously achieving Excellent grades during her three years at DTU, Thanh Hai has completed an outstanding and unique essay with detailed study plans, "attached" with various extracurricular activities and excellent language skills. Moreover, her confidence and honesty during interviews helped Thanh Hai gain many "bonus points" to be admitted to the Exchange Program at Yeungnam University.

At Yeungnam University, she not only won:

•    First Prize in the Say Award "Study at Yeungnam" competition,

Thanh Hai also won:

•    First Prize in the "Photo Contest Say 2024" for Exchange Students,
•    Second Prize in the "Dream of becoming a Global Leader with Yeungnam University" competition in 2023,

Enjoying their study time at Yeungnam University in South Korea, Thanh Hai and her friends are maximizing their free time to visit many beautiful landscapes and diverse cultures of the "kimchi land". This is truly an unforgettable "chic and chill" trip for DTU students participating in the International Student Exchange Scholarship Program.

Thanh Hai said: "Participating in this program not only creates opportunities for me to enhance professional knowledge through courses but also significantly helps me develop communication skills. Therefore, after completing the program, I plan to apply the knowledge and skills I have learned to practical work and future research, while also sharing experiences to help other Vietnamese students access this program in the best way possible."
