The Danang city People’s Committee organized a commendation ceremony for organizations and individuals with outstanding achievements in science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship in 2023. The ceremony took place in the morning of May 16, 2024, at the Danang city Administrative Center. An exemplary organization honored at the ceremony, Duy Tan University and many of its scientists were awarded certificates of merit in several important categories.
DTU scientists received certificates of merit from the Danang city People’s Committee
Out of a total of 375 applications concerning 2 inventions, 6 utility solutions granted protection certificates, 6 projects awarded at Vietnam National Technical Innovation Contests, and 361 scientific papers published in international journals, the chairman of the Danang city People’s Committee decided to award:
? 2 inventions,
? 4 utility solutions,
? 6 projects awarded at Vietnam National Technical Innovation Contests,
? 39 authors with 47 scientific papers published in prestigious scientific journals,
? 9 teams and 9 individuals with innovation & entrepreneurship achievements.
Among the two inventions granted patents and receiving a prize from the city of Danang, the “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation First Aid Training System” by the group of Dr Le Van Chung, MSc Trinh Hiep Hoa, and Assoc.Prof. Dr Nguyen Gia Nhu was highly appreciated.
It is a significant achievement of scientific research and the practical application of technology. The product uses IoT technology and virtual reality to enhance and train the users’ first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills. It has been successfully commercialized, with a first order of ten units that DTU delivered to the Wellbeing Health Education Organization. The university also donated one unit to Tran Phu high school in Danang to improve the students’ access to training and to increase community health awareness.

In scientific research, out of the 39 scientists to receive awards, 13 DTU scientists received certificates of merit for their scientific papers in prestigious international journals. This recognition by the city leadership acknowledges the contributions by DTU’s scientific team to the overall achievements of Danang.
The scientific research by DTU scientists has been published in highly reputable journals, such as Automation in Construction, the International Journal of Pavement Engineering, Frontier in Psychiatry, and the Journal of Environmental Management. Some examples are:
- Dr Hoang Nhat Duc and Dr Tran Nguyen Hai are among the five Vietnamese scientists in the Best Rising Stars of Science in the World 2023 ranking.
- Among Elsevier’s hundred thousand most influential scientists in the world in 2023, one finds Dr Hoang Nhat Duc ranked 5,551st and Dr Tran Nguyen Hai ranked 6,669th.
- In innovation & entrepreneurship, DTU received a certificate of merit from the chairman of the Danang city People’s Committee for outstanding achievements in innovation & entrepreneurship in the city over the years. DTU has played a pivotal role with many effective activities, such as:
- with BK Holdings establishing the Innovation and Incubation Space,
- with Samsung Vietnam building a Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) in Danang,
- coordinating with the Department of Science & Technology to successfully organize the 2023 Danang Startup & Innovation Festival (SURF),
- investing in the project to obtain biomass from Vietnamese ginseng,
- commercializing the AED-302 cardiopulmonary resuscitation trainer.
The innovation & startup projects and businesses DTU is involved in have attracted significant investment, grown rapidly, created added value, and addressed employment needs. This further affirms DTU’s important role in the innovation & entrepreneurship ecosystem in Danang.
DTU students have won numerous awards in various innovation & entrepreneurship competitions
Thanks to this environment, DTU students participate in various activities and competitions and have won significant awards:
? “Firewall” outstandingly won second prize and “Production of 3D printing plastic filaments from used plastic bottles (Green3D Print)” won a consolation prize at the 2023 SURF Startup & Innovation contest,
? the project “Research, design, and manufacture of low-cost active prosthetics for the disabled” won second prize at SV_STARTUP 2024.
? the project “Co Tu community-based tourism” won second prize at the I’m Possible 2023 startup launch pad program.
? the “Smart Bed” project won third prize at the 2020 National Startup contest.
In the same category, DTU Department of Science & Technology Head Dr Truong Tien Vu also received a certificate of merit for outstanding achievements in the implementation of numerous cooperative programs on innovation & entrepreneurship with universities and colleges in the Central Highlands and in his work with the Department of Science & Technology and related organizations for the successfully organization of the 2023 Danang Startup & Innovation Festival (SURF).
Among the teams and individuals commended for innovation & entrepreneurship, Vinseed Biotech LLC received a certificate of merit. Of note, the director of Vinseed is Dr Nguyen Thanh Trung, a researcher at DTU. The company is active primarily in research and application of science, technology, and biotechnology advances for cultivating and producing products from the Cordyceps militaris caterpillar fungus. Dr Nguyen Thanh Trung’s caterpillar fungus farming cabinet previously won first place at the 2022 Danang Startup & Innovation Festival.
These achievements in scientific research, entrepreneurship, and innovation affirm DTU’s position and role as a leading institution in these fields in Danang. This will motivate DTU to continue leveraging its strengths and contribute further to the development of city and country.
