Since the Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung passed away, his wife has been trading at the market to support their two daughters, facing many difficulties, DTU has decided to award a full scholarship to the youngest daughter of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung.
On the afternoon of March 13, at the residence of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung on Tran Luu Street (Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District, Da Nang), a DTU delegation came to light incense for Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Gac Ma sovereignty protection battle (March 14, 1988 - March 14, 2024).
Here, Associate Professor Nguyen Huu Phu, DTU Vice- Provost, informed the family of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung about the university's decision to grant a full scholarship to the youngest daughter of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung, Duong Thi My Linh (21 years old). Currently, My Linh is a student of the International Tourism Faculty at DTU.

According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, upon learning that the daughter of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung was studying at DTU, Hero of Labor and Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU Chairman, decided to waive all tuition fees of over 120 million dong for Duong Thi My Linh.
"For a long time, with the intention of helping the families and children of comrades and those who have worn the uniform and dedicated their youth to the motherland... Teacher Le Cong Co decided to award a full scholarship to student Duong Thi My Linh to express gratitude to Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung," shared Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu.

Moved upon hearing that her daughter received a full scholarship, Mrs. Tran Thi Loi (57 years old), the wife of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung, said that since her husband passed away, she has been waking up early to trade at the Hoa Cuong wholesale market in Hai Chau District, Da Nang.
"When my husband passed away, Linh was in 8th grade, I woke up early to trade until late at night to support our two daughters' education. Now that they are grown up, trading at the market is difficult, and I have to struggle for every meal to ensure my daughter's university education. The annual tuition fees make me very worried... Now that the university has awarded a scholarship, I am truly grateful," Mrs. Loi confided.

Talking about her dreams, Duong Thi My Linh said that after studying Accounting Auditing, she decided to switch to the International Tourism Department at DTU after two years. However, to pursue her passion for working at the airport, My Linh was very worried, afraid that her family's finances could not cover the tuition fees for the next 3 years of study.
"I am studying foreign languages to pursue my passion. When I heard that the university would award me a full scholarship, I was deeply moved... My father's figure appeared again, making tears stream down my face," My Linh recounted.

Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung was the only survivor among 10 naval soldiers in Da Nang City who participated in the Gac Ma battle on March 14, 1988 in the Spratly Islands after a long period of captivity by China.
After returning to Vietnam, Duong Van Dung got married and had three children, but in 2011, his only son died in a traffic accident while in high school. Life, which was already difficult, encountered a major "disaster," causing Dung to collapse. He was later found to have cancer.
After a long struggle with cancer, Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung passed away on February 26, 2017, at the age of 51.
