474 athletes in 53 groups from all over the country participated in the 2023 National Athletics Championship, who competed in 50 main events, 24 for men, 24 for women, 2 mixed and 1 youth event, an octathlon.
Nguyen Pham Hoai Yen, a member of the Danang athletics delegation and a final-year student in the DTU PSU-standard Tourism & Travel Management program, won a gold medal in the women’s pole vault with a jump of 3.80 meters. The event was held from October 24 to 28 at the National Military Training Center 4 in Mieu Mon, Hanoi and this was Hoai Yen’s highest achievement so far.

Nguyen Pham Hoai Yen has achieved impressive results in national competitions for many years, helping Danang become a location with the one of the best sports performances in the country. To prepare for the 2023 competition, Hoai Yen practiced for two months at the National Training Center 2 in Thu Duc, HCMC, under the guidance of her coaches.

Previously, Hoai Yen won:
- A gold at the 2022 Vietnam National Games
- A silver at the 2020 National Athletics Championships
- A silver at the 2018 Vietnam National Games
Hoai Yen happily explained: “My 3.80-meter jump for the gold medal is a personal record and I’m very proud to have exceeded my own limitations. This will motivate me to train and compete even harder, and build a bridge to international competitions. Meanwhile, I’d like to thank my lecturers and friends at DTU, who always encourage me and create the most favorable conditions that enabled me to succeed today.”
Through her hard work, Nguyen Pham Hoai Yen has proved her patience, determination, ability to overcome difficulties and succeed. Her achievement was a source of joy and happiness for herself, her family, lecturers and friends at DTU, and for all young people who love sports in general.
Hoai Yen’s jump of 3.80 meters wins the gold
Nguyen Huu Kim Son, another DTU student, won five medals, three gold and two bronze, at the 2023 National Swimming & Diving Championships, held from October 10 to 15 at the Phu Tho Swimming & Diving club in HCMC. Then the DTU women’s volleyball team came second to the Danang Sports University at the 2023 Central Vietnam National Student Volleyball Tournament, from October 19 to 24, qualifying for the national finals in November, in Hanoi.
