Billions of VND have been invested in the DTU Open Lab, including two practice rooms for Information Security and Network Engineering. The facility includes a full range of specialized equipment, such as high-capacity servers, routers, firewalls, IDS/IPS, and load balancers, supplied by Cisco, Fortinet, Drytech and others, used in conjunction with the “DTU Network Drill Ground,” the “DTU Private Cloud,” and the DTU Network Operation Simulation Center.

This state-of-the-art equipment is managed by a team of security experts who work at DTU or come from local companies, such as VNCERT, VNPT-IT, BKAV, and Viettel, who contribute significantly to the lab by providing practical situations, such as real security threats that have already been detected, the latest warning messages, and unique solutions, giving students an in-depth understanding of security vulnerabilities, risks, and how to promptly deal with them. They are now able to focus on the day-to-day operation of highly secure networks, and, at the same time, concentrate on the development of secure cyberspace applications.

Two examples of security vulnerability are:

- CVE-2022-37968 in the “Azure Arc-enabled Kubernetes cluster Connect”, enabling direct attacks
- 2022-40684, with a serious impact on the FortiOS and FortiProxy systems, announced by Fortinet, with a warning issued by the Authority of Information Security

The DTU Open Lab model for network engineering & information security can also be used to develop pentest, IoT pentest, DevSecOps and other systems on the web,  by respond instantly to potential security vulnerabilities, even those encountered for the first time.

DTU Open Lab students demonstrate their expertise by winning major awards at both national and international contests, including:

- Second prize, at the 2022 ASEAN Student Information Security Contest
- Second prize, at the Arab Security Cyber Wargames in Egypt in 2022
- Third prize, at the 2022 Security Bootcamp
- Third prize, at the 2022 Insomni’hack CTF finals in Switzerland

At the same time, the ISITDTU team, the White-Hat Hackers, was ranked first in Vietnam by CTFTime, and 58th and 38th worldwide, in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

The DTU programs in IT & Computer Science are internationally guaranteed. The university imported the curricula and trained its lecturers at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU),  one of the four leading IT universities in the US. Technology & Engineering students are taught using the international CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate) learning method. These majors have all achieved the highest ABET accreditation level for six years, and most of them are taught in English by visiting lecturers from American universities or by foreign lecturers working at the DTU International School (IS).
