On December 24, the DTU Faculty of Chinese Language held its 2023 New Year’s Gala, where students met, made friends and demonstrated their musical talents in exciting, joyful and colorful performances to welcome in the Spring and Tet.
The students set up two booths, representing the Vietnamese Tet and Chinese New Year styles. The Vietnamese booth displayed trays of five fruits, “banh chung,” and “banh tet,” while the Chinese exhibited “Chinese Door God” stickers, red couplets and red lanterns, used to pray for peace. The Chinese students chose to make dumplings to bring good luck for the year ahead and the Vietnamese wrapped “banh chung” to offer thanks to heaven and earth.

Students also engaged in teambuilding activities, such as tug of war, bag hopping and group dancing. Then the musical festival on the outdoor stage featured songs about Spring and the Vietnamese and Chinese cultures.

Dr. Dang Bich Lien, Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Language, said: “The New Year’s Gala is one of the major activities held annually by the Faculty of Chinese Language to welcome in the New Year. Students have lots of fun after days of hard study and today’s Gala will bring them beautiful and happy memories. I wish all lecturers, students and their families a great New Year with good health, happiness and significant accomplishments.”

Finally, prizes were awarded for the best performances:
- First prize to the joint team of classes K26NTQ4 and K25NTQ17, for their “Proud of Being Vietnamese” performance
- Second prize to class K26NTQ7, for their singing and dancing to the “Vietnamese Spirit”
- Third prize to class K27NTB8 for dancing the “Chi Pheo - Bailing Water By the Communal House”
- Impressive Performance Awards to Ms. Tu Trinh and class K26NTQ1; Ms. Phuong Thao and class K25NTQ19; and the joint team of classes K25NTQ4 and K25NTQ11, for their “Blue and White Porcelain” dance, “Thien Truc Girl” and “Last Dance” respectively.
The New Year’s Gala and performances gave K28 freshmen a better understanding of the two cultures and their Chinese major and enabled them to broaden their relationships and team spirit, individually and in class.
