“We’re honored to begin our partnership, especially on the day of DTU’s 28th anniversary,” said PolyU School of Hotel & Tourism Management Dean, Professor Kaye Chon. “Twenty-eight years is not long, but DTU has made some impressive achievements and contributed continuously to Vietnam and to Vietnamese education in particular. As a result of our new relationship, we look forward to welcoming you to our university. We trust that DTU will be able to graduate even more talented professionals into Vietnam’s Hospitality sector, where they can then actively contribute to the socioeconomic development of their country.”
After working together for some time, the two institutions have now agreed to implement:
- 2+2 Bachelor’s programs in Tourism, Event, Hospitality, and Restaurant Operations Management:
With these programs, students first complete their first two years at the DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute, and then study in their 3rd and 4th years at the PolyU School of Hotel & Tourism Management. They will then receive Bachelor’s degrees from each of the two highly ranked universities, opening up attractive new career opportunities to future graduates.
- 4+1 program: DTU graduates study for a one-year Master’s degree at PolyU in International Hospitality Management, International Tourism & Convention Management, or Wine Management.
In addition, PolyU SHTM will award scholarships to outstanding DTU HTi students in either of the two programs,
DTU HTi Provost, Professor Mo Chil-min, speaks
“I am very grateful that Professor Chon came such a long way to be with us today,” said DTU HTi Provost, Professor Chil-min, “I respect him highly for his career in education. Under his guidance, the PolyU SHTM has developed into one of the leading Hospitality training universities in the world and recently helped the DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute to obtain TedQual accreditation.”
“Our first step will be to boost student exchange. As Professor Chon stated, we normally only partner with universities in the world’s top 100, although DTU is currently ranked in the top 500. However, I hope that we can jointly build a long-term sustainable partnership together.”
Leaders of both universities
Hong Kong Polytechnic University was officially established in 1972, with the mission of providing vocation-oriented education to meet the demand for qualified professionals. Today, PolyU includes eight campuses and offers programs in the applied sciences, business, construction, the environment, engineering, social sciences, medicine, humanities, design, and hotel & hospitality management.
