DTU Social Sciences and Humanities Students Plant Trees on Son Tra Peninsula

On March 19, DTU Social Sciences & Humanities students and soldiers of Regiment 290 of the Air Defense Force planted 20 Peltophorum Pterocarpum trees at the Radar station 29 on the Son Tra peninsula.

This was part of the “Listen to the Voices of the Environment” program, launched by DTU Vietnamese Literature majors to protect the plant and animal species there.

The Son Tra Peninsula is known as the “green lungs” of Danang, a nature reserve in rich diversity and home of the langur monkey primates, which are now almost globally extinct elsewhere.

The Peltophorum Pterocarpum trees can grow well in diversified topographies and were brought especially from the Mekong Delta.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong, Secretary of the radar station 29 Youth Union, said: “The tree planting is really important, as it contributes to the protection of the Son Tra ecosystem. This is also an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the DTU Youth Union. Every year, in March, the younger generation are encouraged to voluntarily focus on innovative community projects outside of the classroom, to make a positive impact locally and set an example for others to follow."

Tran Thi Thanh, from K25 VTD1, said: “We have read a lot of articles about life in the mountains, by famous writers, such as Nguyen Minh Chau and Nguyen Ngoc Tu, and have written essays on environmental issues. We are proud and delighted to plant trees here today and meet the soldiers at the radar station, in the heroic tradition of defending the Fatherland of the Vietnam People's Army and contributing to our community at the same time."
