On December 15, the University Ranking by Academic Performance organization (URAP) announced the world’s top 2,500 universities in 2019. Eight Vietnam universities were listed and Duy Tan University in Danang made its first appearance this year, at 1,147.
URAP was established at the Informatics Institute at the Middle East Technical University in 2009, with the objective of developing a worldwide ranking system for universities, based on academic performance, determined by the number of articles published in journals, the number of citations in journals, the total number of research papers published internationally in the last five years and the number of international partnerships.
By conducting their own research, without recourse to self-reporting by universities or expert voting, URAP is becoming well-known for its objectivity.
Vietnam now has eight universities in the 2019 URAP rankings
The Vietnamese universities listed were:
- Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, at 462
- Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, at 1,107
- Duy Tan University, at 1,147.
- The Vietnam National University-Hanoi, at 1,181
- The Hanoi University of Science and Technology, at 1,534
- The Hanoi Medical University, at 1,925
- Can Tho University in the Mekong Delta, at 2,248
- Hue University, at 2,387
In 2018, there were only seven Vietnamese universities ranked, as above, but excluding DTU.
A month earlier, DTU was listed in the top 500 universities in Asia, according a UK-based company, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which specializes in Asian rankings.
