For ten hours, the teams attacked their competitors and attempted to seize their network resources, while trying to protect their own. At the end, Vo Thua Phuc Nguyen, Huynh Thanh Quang, Nguyen Tan Phat and Tran Minh Thu of the ISIT-DTU team finished 4th with a score of 5.75 out of 10, beating other teams from the USA, Portugal and Austria.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Tuan, an Information Technology lecturer, said: “The ISIT-DTU team is comprised of IT enthusiasts who are self-confident, intelligent, hard-working and willing to participate in large-scale competitions. They were able to demonstrate their skills here and have done a great job this year.”

Four members of the ISIT-DTU team had already participated in other national and global Information Security contests. “The 2017 VolgaCTF competition allowed me to exploit the competitors’ vulnerabilities using the latest hacking and security techniques. Working with international experts improved my reasoning and problem-solving skills and gave me a broader understanding of Informatics and Security.” said Vo Thua Phuc Nguyen.

In 2016, the ISIT-DTU team was ranked fortieth in the world and second in Vietnam by CTF Time, the leading assessment and ranking organization in Information Security, at https://ctftime.org/
