DTU partners with US universities to share advanced academic programs in Information Technology, Information Management Systems, Network Security and other courses, to bring the education of the local workforce up to international standards.
On May 5th, DTU awarded Course Completion Certificates to students in the advanced CMU, PSU, and CSU programs, and also Japanese IT Passports to IT students.
CMU, PSU, and CSU students study in English with foreign teachers
In 2008, DTU signed an agreement with Carnegie Mellon University, one of the leading IT universities in the USA, to share advanced curricula in Software Engineering, Information Management Systems and Network Security. Under the agreement, 120 Train-the-Trainer courses have been conducted so far, employing the most advanced teaching methods and technology.
In 2009, DTU partnered with Pennsylvania State University, one of the biggest public universities in the USA, to share advanced programs in Business Administration, Accounting and Auditing, Finance and Banking, Hospitality and Hotel Management and, in 2011, with California State University, one of the leading universities on the US West Coast, to share advanced curricula in Architecture and Construction.
These three partnerships provide DTU with 18 to 24 major and minor courses each. Courses are taught by DTU lecturers who have participated in the Train-the-Trainer courses in the US and Vietnam and worked with visiting lecturers from the American universities.
“Students of the advanced programs receive high-quality training, in English, which focuses on soft and practical, real-life skills, so students will graduate with truly international qualifications.”, said a DTU representative.
Course Completion Certificates from CMU, PSU and CSU will allow DTU students to study in the USA under the 1+1+2, 2+2 and 3+1 overseas programs. This opens up broader opportunities for graduates to work in Vietnam, in other countries in ASEAN, and worldwide.
In addition to the certificates from CMU, PSU and CSU programs, students from the International School can also take the exam for an IT Passport, granted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, which is recognized by Japan and the seven ITPEC nations.
Certificates are awarded to students of advanced programs
The exam for IT Passport certification is run by VITEC, and DTU is currently the only test center in Central Vietnam. In the first exam in October 2016, second and third-year IT students of CMU program passed with average scores of 65%, compared with 32.9% nationally. With an IT Passport, students gain additional job opportunities in Japanese companies, with the opportunity to obtain Japanese student or work visas.
“Enrolling in these CMU, PSU, CSU programs at DTU, we will be equipped with specialized knowledge, the English language and other soft and real-life skills, which will enable us to find excellent jobs on graduation.” said a student from the DTU International School.
