Professor Ngo Bao Chau meets with DTU students
“Many students and parents choose major they should study at university based on emotion, depending on which majors are fashionable or lead to lucrative careers. Students do not know what they want to do, what they are passionate about and quickly become bored”, Professor Ngo Bao Chau explained this to a meeting of DTU lecturers and students on April 24th.
Prof. Chau shared his passion for mathematics, education, and for students career selection with the DTU students. Many of them expressed their admiration for Prof. Ngo Bao Chau’s success.
On the opinion that Vietnamese education is not of good quality, Prof. Ngo Bao Chau said that, assessed objectively, senior high school education in Vietnam is in general not bad at all.
Professor Chau said that Vietnamese education has potential, but has not yet reached the academic level of neighboring countries. One simple reason is that high school students do not receive proper guidance on which major they should study when entering university.
Professor Chau announced that he would establish a career orientation club for high school students. Successful graduates in various business sectors would then encourage students to visit them, learn about different career paths and determine which one suits them best.
