Health Sciences at Duy Tan University has been receiving an increasing number of applications year-by-year.

A special major at DTU human health sciences, and the university has carefully planned its entry into Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing education, with several new innovations along the way, to provide the community with skilled, dedicated and ethical Physicians. As a result, the number of applicants for Health Science majors has doubled. In 2017, DTU continues its enrollment in Health Sciences with three majors:

- Bachelor of Pharmacy

- General Nursing

- General Practitioner

DTU’s Health Science students are taught with new curricula, oriented around the advanced programs of US universities. The university has already signed agreements and adopted the materials of two US partners:

 

- University of Illinois at Chicago, with the broadest Medicine and Pharmacy education programs in the US, in terms of number of students and majors.

- Pittsburgh University. ranked 5th by the National Institutes of Health in medical research in the US.

 

Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing at DTU have implemented the PBL (Problem-Based Learning or Project-Based Learning) model, an advanced teaching method used in teaching Life and Health Sciences worldwide. DTU’s Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing lecturers have been directly trained in this approach by professors from the Duke-NUS Medical School, a collaboration with Duke University in the US and the National University of Singapore. Furthermore, DTU is also receiving training in Nursing methods from Ben-Gurion University in Israel, in simulation, evidence-based nursing practices and team-based learning (TBL).

 DTU Health Sciences signs agreements with universities and hospitals worldwide

In Health Sciences, DTU has created the Center of Visualization & Simulation (CVS), to develop innovative 3D virtual reality medical simulations to improve the standard of education. DTU’s anatomical 3D simulation technology was voted one of the three best inventions at the 2016 Youth Knowledge for Education event, with a prize of 100 million VND. This flexible technology is now being used in many ways by lecturers and students alike. Students can use it in 2D to study on computers or smart phones, or they can interact directly with a 3D projector at the university studio. 

The application has a versatile interface and allows the user to observe images of the skeleton, the respiratory system, the nervous system and the circulatory system in detail, separately or integrated with each other. It has helped the lecturers to avoid teaching empty-handed, as at other Vietnamese institutions. DTU’s next development plan is to create a Medical Simulation Center, in a new five-story building on the Hoa Khanh Nam campus, with training and technology by provided Pittsburgh University. Also, to provide Health Science students with real-life practical exposure, DTU signed agreements with eighteen local hospitals and their doctors to practice on patients. These include the Danang Hospital, the Danang C Hospital, Military Hospital 17, the Ministry of Public Security Hospital 199, the Quang Nam Central General Hospital and the Family Hospital. The university is also planning to build its own diagnostic center and teaching hospital on the banks of the Han River, to centralize teaching, practice and research in Health Sciences. 

By investing in personnel and infrastructure in the recent new Health Sciences discipline, DTU has achieved several noteworthy breakthroughs. Lecturers have published one hundred papers in international and national journals, with over forty in ISI-indexed ones. They have also won first, second and three third prizes at the 17th and 18th Vietnamese Medicine and Pharmacy conferences. In addition, Truong Thi Mai, participating in the T16 “Inserting Port-A-Cath” project, was commended for an exemplary presentation at the 17th National Cancer Control conference at the Hanoi K Hospital. DTU also organizes conferences to accumulate and share the latest information on Health Sciences, including an international conference on Medical IT Applications, the National Nursing conference and a seminar on Ethical Nursing Standards.

In the General Practitioner program, the first year teaches General English, Medical English and basic scientific topics in English, facilitating the study of practical and research materials, which are all published in English. The enrollment statistics year-to-year are very encouraging, with General Practitioner students rising to 138 from 83 students in 2015-2016, all with scores of 20/30 or higher.

 

 For the 2017 enrollment, DTU has many special preferential scholarships for the Health Sciences:

 

- Full scholarships for full course tuitions for applicants signing up for General Practitioner who have a total three-subject High Graduation Exam score of 26 points or higher.

- Full scholarships for first year tuition for applicants signing up for General Practitioner who have a total three-subject High Graduation Exam score of 25 points or higher.

- Full scholarship for full course tuitions for applicants signing up for a Bachelor of Pharmacy who have a total three-subject High Graduation Exam score of 25 points or higher.

- Full scholarships for first year tuition for applicants signing up for a Bachelor of Pharmacy who have a total three-subject High Graduation Exam score of 24 points or higher.

- Scholarships of one million VND each for applicants with permanent residence in the provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, and Thanh Hoa who sign up for General Nursing.
