DTU 2017 Enrolment for Social Sciences and Humanities, and Foreign Languages

A well-trained, multi-disciplined and enthusiastic workforce is required as the national economy becomes more stable. The need to increase people’s well-being and provide them with the latest information, freedom of speech and recreational facilities demands this. DTU continues to enroll students in Social Sciences & Humanities and Foreign Languages in 2017, opening up new study and scholarship opportunities for applicants from all over the country.

Social Sciences & Humanities and Foreign Languages organize international conferences at DTU

The DTU Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities currently offers training in four majors:

- Literature and Journalism
- Culture and Hospitality
- International Relations
- Economic Law

Not solely academically oriented, DTU aims to meet the actual job requirements of the community, with 75% of graduates finding appropriate jobs. Graduates in Literature & Journalism find jobs at press agencies, radio and television stations and media companies. Those from International Relations work at government offices, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassies, Consular offices or at Vietnamese trade offices abroad.

Graduates of Economic Law find careers in the Court, with procurers, law firms, museums, heritage management centers, socio-economic research centers and so on, while students of Culture and Hospitality become tour guides, receptionists, room service staff, inter-cultural specialists or managers.

In order for graduates to find secure careers, the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities has a team of two associate professors, five PhDs and nineteen Masters. Focused on investing in teaching, the Faculty also is broadening its research activities, with 300 publications in national and international specialized journals.

Fourteen papers have been published in journals, including the Journal of Interdisciplinary Networks and the Journal of Southeast Asian Studies. The Faculty also organizes seminars to help lecturers and students meet to expand their knowledge, such as “The ASEAN Community after 2015: Opportunities and Challenges”, “Teaching Methods in Social Sciences and Humanities”, “The Role of Social Sciences & Humanities at Universities”. The Faculty has also published books to further educate lecturers and students alike, such as The History of World Civilizations, Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, ASEAN-China Relations and East Asian Collaboration and Integration.

Students from the Faculties of Social Sciences & Humanities and Foreign Languages attend events

The DTU Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities has established relations with large universities and research institutes in Vietnam and abroad to exchange lecturers and students. These include the University of Social Sciences & Humanities at the National University in Hanoi and HCMC, the Hanoi University of Education, the Institute of Literature, the University of Education in Danang, the Diplomatic Academy, the National Academy of Public Administration and Politics of Region III, the Hue University of Sciences and with well-known universities in the US, Thailand, Singapore and China.

Several graduates of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities have taken government jobs. Nguyen Thi Duyen Hai is now working at the Central Airport Authority, Nguyen Thi Xuyen the Danang branch of the Trade Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, while others are working at the Intercontinental Resort, the Furama, Vinatex, Viettel and other places.

Students won first prize in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands competitions, a consolation prize at the national 2015 Singing 20s contest, a prize for the Most Promising MC at the 2016 Be your Dream contest, and were invited to the 5th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies (ICVS) in  December 2016 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

In 2017, DTU is offering a new major in Multimedia Communications. Graduates will be able to work at press agencies, radio and television stations, and media companies. This will be a major career path of the future, requiring special professional skills, dynamism and foresight in the fields of consulting and event organization, contributing to improved public awareness.

In addition to being responsible for teaching basic and special English to students of non-linguistic majors at the university, the DTU Faculty of Foreign Languages also offers intensive courses in English translation and interpretation and English for Tourism. English has now become essential in Vietnamese government and business, and graduates with excellent English proficiency will find career opportunities in all sectors.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages currently has a team consisting of 1 PhD, 42 Masters and 8 Bachelors. The Faculty lecturers actively work with foreign universities to identify new scholarship and career opportunities. 

The DTU Learning and Testing Center (LTC) was established last year to offer international examinations such as IELTS, Cambridge, OET, and TESOL in Central Vietnam. The LTC also offers high-level executive exam preparation and training courses to local agencies and businesses, managed by Dr. Alex Quah and Mr.Victor Lim.
