Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co Presented the “Hero of Labor” Title

On March 18th, on behalf of the State President, Deputy-President Nguyen Thi Doan presented the “Hero of Labor” award to Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost. He was the first academic in the private higher education sector in Vietnam to be honored with this award.

Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co joined the Vietnamese Revolutionary Movement at the age of 13 and became a party member at the age of 24. During the next 22 years he participated in the Revolution and was awarded the first-class Resistance War Medal, the first-class American Resistance War Medal and other honors by the Party and State, for his contributions to the country’s independence. He was featured in books by several writers, including a two-volume novel entitled “H?c Phí Tr? B?ng Máu” and “Thành Ph? Ð?ng Ð?u Gió”, by Nguyen Khac Phuc. 

With his daring spirit, he boldly planned an innovative new socialized education policy for higher education in Vietnam, and committed to implementing it for the Party and State. He has dedicated his passion and life to building and developing DTU, to educate a high-quality workforce and has already contributed heavily to the socioeconomic development of our country and its internationalization. 

Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co has made DTU one of the largest private universities in the Central Region, recognized nationally, with five strategic objectives. These are teaching English to faculty and staff, computerization, professionalization, internationalization and energizing top management and faculty. Also, in keeping with its motto “We Do Everything for Student Rights and Future Careers”, the DTU academic doctrine is to focus on building a teaching and research university, established on a foundation of humanitarianism and innovation,

Deputy-Minister of MOET, Mr. Pham Manh Hung, said: “Having proved the achievements of the past 30 year of Doi Moi, the 12th Party Congress established a goal to exploit the strength of our people and socialist democracy, by rapidly converting our country into a modern, industrialized nation, with comprehensive and sustainable economic development. Therefore, in the future, DTU and the entire Vietnamese education sector must work together to continue their pioneering role, by fearlessly broadening international partnerships and educating humanistic students of good moral standing in the professional skills with the business acumen to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the city of Danang, Central Vietnam and elsewhere. In this way, based on the strong foundation built over the past 22 years, DTU will continue to complete its mission, by making more and more significant contributions to education, and support national and local authorities to improve and protect our Vietnamese Fatherland in the future”.

DTU was also awarded Prime Ministerial Emulation Banners for its significant achievements in 2014-2015 and Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Vice-Provost, received a Prime Ministerial Certificate of Merit. 

Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co said: “I share this award with all those that have worked with me during these 22 years of building and developing DTU, backed by state and local authorities, and others. I would like to thank MOET for focusing on our needy Central Region and dedicating its resources to trustfully support our educational objectives. DTU will continue to educate global citizens with moral qualities, community awareness, equipped with solid knowledge and skills and graduates who are able to adapt to all conditions and work environments. DTU also hopes to maintain the attention and the support of Party and State authorities. Our goal is to reach the international standards of a top-rate national university in several disciplines, and become an outstanding leader of Vietnamese private universities by the year 2020.”

Many major awards have been presented to Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co and DTU by the State, by MOET and by the Danang People’s Committee, which have motivated the university to persevere in their efforts to educate the community. The brand-name and quality of education at DTU, the largest private university in the Central Region, has also been widely recognized over the years.
