Using a robot to guide pedestrians across the street is a concept developed by Nguyen Cong Tin, Vo Thanh Nghia and Ha Kim Tung, who are students in the DTU Faculty of Electronics. When warning lights go on, the robot says, in English and Vietnamese, "I am a robot that guides pedestrians across the street. Please press my start button and I will help you”. Afterwards, it returns to its starting point. The robot can identify passers-by at one meter and stops when it meets an obstacle or when it reaches the sidewalk opposite. The robot can help more than fifty pedestrians a day.

Nguyen Cong Tin of K18 EVT said: “Creativity awards for young people motivate us to work harder. In March 2015, the robot was tested in several streets in Danang and received positive feedback from pedestrians. We are currently perfecting it for future use and I would like to thank the DTU Board of Provosts for their sustained support and our DTU lecturers for their dedicated guidance.”
