Fields which could offer paths to leading career opportunities in Vietnam in the future currently include Food Engineering, Economic Law, Medicine, Environmental Engineering and Management. DTU has therefore focused on improving the quality of education in these disciplines.
DTU expands the range of practical courses for students
Food Engineering - Broader Job Opportunities for Graduates
Increasing living standards and household incomes require improvements in food quality and safety. Several companies and research institutes in the field of Food Engineering have been established in Vietnam recently. DTU began offering a Food Engineering program in 2016, after completing investment in facilities and staff.
The program focuses on graduating engineers and specialists in the processing of materials and production of foodstuffs. Food Engineering students study Biotechnology and apply it in food processing and beverage production. Graduates can work in food companies, training centers, research institutes, chemical factories, fertilizer and pesticide firms, petroleum and cosmetic companies and so on. Others can work in rural areas at tea and coffee farms, process aquatic products and elsewhere.
Economic Law - A Major for Global Integration
As Vietnam integrates into the world economy, new challenges have emerged in educating experts with a broad understanding of national and international law. In order to contribute to the country’s socioeconomic growth, in 2014, DTU began offering an Economic Law program, which has attracted hundreds of students, thanks to the foresight of the university.
The program focuses on the knowledge and skills required in juridical activities, policy orientation, investment consulting, taxation, credit and banking, international commerce and so on. Lecturers are recruited from within DTU and supplemented with experts from well-known universities in Vietnam and abroad. Students exchange ideas with lawyers, judges, court staff, prosecutors and import-export specialists. They conduct periodic mock trials to study theory, put it into practice and build a solid foundation for their future careers.
Medicine - A Promising Specialty
The Ministry of Education and Training authorized DTU to offer a new major in Medicine in 2015, to meet the increasing demand for health workers in the Central region. DTU is partnering with twenty local hospitals and students will be able to intern at the Danang C Hospital, the 17th Military Zone Hospital, the 199th Hospital of the Ministry of Public Security, the Quang Nam General Hospital, the Family Hospital and others. In this program, DTU is collaborating with two American universities, the University of Illinois in Chicago and Pittsburgh University. Students spend their first year improving their English and continue to the course taught by experienced physicians, which also includes hospital internships. Graduates will work at public and private hospitals, health centers, research institutes and health management agencies, for example.
Environmental Engineering and Management - A Discipline for Sustainable Development
Climate change due to environmental pollution has emerged as an urgent problem worldwide, including Vietnam, where over 60% of the 200 industrial parks are not yet equipped with wastewater treatment systems. Also only 60 to 70% of the solid waste, sewage and wastewater in urban areas is collected and treated correctly, with infrastructure that does meet environmental standards. There are not enough workers in this field and the training is poor.
To meet this urgent need, DTU has offered majors in Environmental studies since 2011. Among them, Environmental Engineering and Management have become the most important. Students study in modern international-standard classrooms and laboratories with projectors, Wi-Fi, and all necessary facilities.
In addition, a partnership with Singapore Polytechnic allows DTU Environment students to take part in research exchange projects with foreign students. Every year, ten DTU students fly to Singapore to undertake research. Graduates obtain a degree of Environmental Engineering and can then take technical or managerial jobs, or engage in research or lecturing.
