My name is Nguyen Thi Thanh. As soon as my first semester ended, I put my books aside for a moment, relaxed and looked out the window. The rain reminded me of sunny days last summer, when I left high school and became a 2015 DTU Valedictorian, with 28.25 points in the National Examination.

A New Door
As a result, there were several universities available to me. However, I finally chose the UIU On-Site Study-Abroad program at Duy Tan University. This program is the first of its kind to be offered in the Central region, where I grew up. It is a unique opportunity to advance my education and graduate with an American accredited degree in Danang.
My family and I were delighted to hear that I had been accepted to major in Financial Management and, even more so, when I was granted a full scholarship. Words cannot describe how I felt, but seeing my parents’ radiant, smiling faces, I was finally convinced that I had made the right choice. Since then, I am firmly resolved to make my dreams come true and be worthy of the expectations of my family, university and community.
The First Semester
As first year students, we spent much time learning English, in order to learn as much as possible about our majors. Thanks to the dedicated support of our DTU lecturers, I was able to overcome early difficulties and become acclimatized to my new study environment.
I find the lectures quite interesting. I study with professors from UIU and with professional, experienced DTU lecturers. The curriculum and teaching methods are completely international, also encompassing teamwork and presentation skills.
After lectures, we go to the library, where we can research the information we need there, using the Electronic Library System and thousands of books covering all possible topics. In addition, the university organizes extracurricular activities to develop skills and self-confidence and, at these events, I have been able to make many new friends and now feel closer to my classmates. I used to be a bit shy, but am now much more outgoing and energetic.
The first term has concluded with many memorable experiences. With every passing day I realize that my choice and the path I am following is a good one. Without having to travel faraway to the USA, I can live and study in a “miniature America” right here, thanks to my “gateway”, the On-site Study-Abroad program.
