Business Management during Climate Change Seminar

On August 29th, DTU collaborated with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Danang to hold a seminar on Business Management during Climate Change. DTU Business Administration students are well-equipped to plan how to start up a business in this challenging environment and decrease loss of life and property.

Mr. Nguyen Dien, Deputy Director of the VCCI

Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, DTU Vice-Provost, said: “In July 2015, Duy Tan University partnered with the French Development Agency, AFD, to organize two photo exhibitions, entitled 'Sixty Solutions to Cope with Climate Change' and 'Twenty Years of AFD Support in the development of Vietnam'. DTU and VCCI in Danang are holding this seminar to provide students with a deeper understanding of climate change in Vietnam and worldwide. Over the years, DTU has organized many environmental contests and voluntarily participated in environmental protection activities. We have also sent students to international competitions, such as: “Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools Contest” in Taiwan and we won the Champions Cup at the 2014 Asia Pacific IDEERS Contest. We took part in the CDIO Academy in 2013 and won the 2013 CDIO Cup at Harvard University and MIT with the project 'A Low-cost Do-It-Yourself Water-Filtering System for Farmers'. During this seminar, DTU students will learn about environmental protection and how to improve the awareness of global climate change before they go into business.”

DTU students enthusiastically join in the activities

Mr. Ho Nguyen Khoa from the DTU Faculty of Business Administration presented evidence about the impact of climate change on his faculty and suggested some ways of helping businesses to adapt. Vietnam has suffered heavy losses from natural disasters and climate change, and the Central Region is considered an epicenter of storms and super typhoons, which have caused devastating property damage and loss of life. During the time when storms and floods increase in intensity, a lot of students stop going to university due to financial difficulties. With this in mind, DTU always provides aid and preferential policies to students in financial difficulty. DTU has meanwhile focused on improving the awareness of environmental protection in its education programs.

DTU students receive awards

Mr. Nguyen Dien, Deputy Director of VCCI in Danang, provided detailed information on climate change, including the differences between climate and the weather, the current status of natural disasters in Vietnam and worldwide, the laws of natural disaster prevention, funds for natural disaster protection, how to cope with natural disasters, the rights and duties of businesses and so on. He also organized enjoyable activities linked to environmental protection, which helped DTU Business Administration students accumulate detailed information quickly, in preparation for their future careers.
