The organizers wanted students to get a clearer idea and some experience about the local tourism industry. Universities and recruiters were able to exchange ideas on the types of curricula which would be the most suitable to meet industry needs. Businesses also had a chance to recruit well-qualified candidates with the appropriate education.

Mr Tran Chi Cuong, Deputy Director of the Danang Department of Culture, Sport, and Tourism, said: “From 2015 on, after the ASEAN Economic Community is officially established, the ASEAN Ministers of Hospitality recognize that number and quality of their tourism workers must increase to meet demand as member countries globalize. As well as basic theoretical knowledge, students must get hands-on experience and learn from leaders in the field and at forums such as this for tour guides, tour operators, and kitchen and bar service staff, and so on.”

Nguyen Trang Quynh of DTU Tourism & Hospitality faculty said: “I am a second-year student but I attended this job fair and I applied for a part-time job as a service employee at a well-known recreational facility in Danang. I hope to get some hands-on experience for my future job.”

A workshop entitled “Hospitality workforce quality at ASEAN integration” was held at the job fair, providing professional exchange forums in tourism. Hotel managers and tour operators spoke at the workshop, aiming to offer students a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges in the hospitality sector when Vietnam integrates into the ASEAN Economic Community.
