The First Career Orientation and Recruitment Festival for Tourism Students at DTU

On May 12th, DTU partnered with the Danang Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism to host the 2015 Career Orientation and Recruitment Festival for tourism students in Danang. 

Speaking at the event, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Deputy-Director of the Danang Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism said: “Programs such as this provide a great opportunity for students to get practical knowledge, learn from leaders in the field, exchange ideas and share experiences. This gives them clearer job orientation. We are laying out a foundation for a closer relationship between universities and business, to improve education to meet the heavy local demand for qualified graduates and to broaden their job opportunities.”

Activities included a seminar entitled “The Hospitality Workforce Quality at ASEAN Integration”, receiving a lot of memoirs about the industry from the local hotel and travel managers . Students were given a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges in the hospitality industry, as Vietnam integrates into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). At the forums, attendees exchanged ideas and shared experiences and received career counseling. Students also completed job applications.

The meeting was divided into several small forums, so that attendees and could communicate easier. Forums covered opportunities for house-keepers, bartenders, tour guides, tour operators, receptionists and kitchen staff. Thirteen tourism and hospitality companies and a technical high school attended the event.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, of the Phuong Dong Viet Travel Company, said that the biggest weakness of Tourism students was their English. According to Ms. Do Thi Hong, Rector of the Thang Long Technical High School, most students were not able to meet the current international English standards. She said that she is trying to help them to overcome this problem so that they can speak more fluently.
