Upper Iowa University was founded in 1857 by Elizabeth Alexander, in Fayette, Iowa, USA, with the simple dream that future generations could obtain a quality college education close to home. Because the leaders of DTU are working to deliver the highest American quality education to DTU students, Upper Iowa University has chosen DTU to continue their tradition.
On December 3rd, Duy Tan University signed an agreement to share degree programs with Upper Iowa University. Attendees included Dr. William R. Duffy II, President of Upper Iowa University, Dr. Ismael J. Betancourt, Vice President for International Education of Upper Iowa University, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Director of the Danang Education and Training Department, Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, and many DTU lecturers, staff and students.

Dr. Duffy said:
“The Duy Tan and Upper Iowa partnership began over a year ago with an expectation of offering the highest quality academic programs to Vietnamese students who want to study for an American degree without leaving their family and friends. After much discussion, that dream is now becoming a reality. Upper Iowa University (UIU) is a non-profit, liberal arts college accredited through the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, which has regional accreditation authority and responsibility for higher education institutions in the central United States. UIU has been helping students achieve their educational dreams for over 157 years and has nearly 35,000 alumni. We have provided an opportunity for thousands of international students around the world to study outstanding American academic programs. We are very excited to work with DTU, and strongly believe that there is no better educational partner in Vietnam at this point in time for UIU. DTU’s outstanding commitment to academic quality and its institutional values reflect the same commitments and values UIU has for a quality education, services to students, and caring for people. This commitment is evidenced by the recent Government Medal awarded to DTU by the State President. UIU is the second largest private university in Iowa. Over the past 157 years, UIU has had a residential campus with over 1,000 students in Fayette, Indiana. It also has 19 other educational locations in seven states, in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arizona, with international locations in Hong Kong and Malaysia. The collaborative agreement with DTU includes seven disciplines. They are Business Administration, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Information Technology, Information Systems, Graphic Design and Communications. DTU will grant several scholarships to students from Danang, Quang Nam and neighboring provinces who enroll in the first courses.

Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co said:
“Duy Tan University is honored to welcome the President and Vice President of Upper Iowa University for the signing ceremony to provide their degree programs to DTU. The central region of Vietnam suffers from several natural disasters every year. We are delighted that the President of UIU is bringing his American programs to DTU for our students to graduate with an American-accredited degree. Seventy percent of the courses will be taught by lecturers from UIU. DTU graduates of this program will receive the latest international education and become global citizens. Several scholarships will be granted to students from Danang, Quang Nam and neighboring provinces to participate in this kind of study-abroad program.”
In these times of economic globalization, knowledge is the key and higher education drives the development of each country. The policy of DTU is to collaborate internationally with well-known universities in the US and elsewhere. Since 2007, DTU has partnered with Carnegie Mellon University, a leading American university in Information Technology, to offer Bachelor degree programs in Software Engineering, Information Systems and Network Security. In 2010, DTU partnered with Pennsylvania State University, one of the five biggest American public universities, in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and Banking and Tourism and Hospitality. In 2011 DTU partnered with California State University Fullerton to offer Civil Engineering and Architecture majors. DTU also offers study-abroad programs, such as the 2+2, with the first 2 years at DTU and the last 2 years in America, the 1+1+2, with the first 1 year at DTU and last 3 years in America, and 3+1 program, with the first 3 years at DTU and last year in England.
DTU has enhanced their reputation by building strategies to improve educational quality. International partnerships with well-known universities worldwide has enabled DTU to become a popular destination for students nationwide to study for a brighter future.
