A Job Orientation Workshop for DTU Students

On May 15th, the DTU Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality collaborated with the Benthanh Tourist Company of Danang branch to hold a workshop entitled “Job Orientation and Practical Experience in the Tourism Business”. Students were briefed about future careers and gained useful extra information from experienced staff working in Tourism.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tai talks about his experiences

Recently Tourism in Danang has enjoyed big new investments and developments. Danang is now recognized as the best Vietnamese city to live in and the perfect destination for tourists. As a result, there have been some major concerns about the quality of the tourism workforce in its role in promoting future development. During the development process, DTU has invested heavily in promoting tourism training. Many tourism companies and hotels have supported DTU in training and by allowing students to visit them to enhance staff quality. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Thuan, Director of the local Benthanh Tourist Company, said: “In order to succeed in tourism, DTU students need to establish a special strategy for studying and working. Students need to accumulate the knowledge and experience to serve the tourists. So students need to participate in many practical field trips. With their love of tourism, hard work and the ability to control and solve problems under any circumstance, these students will meet with success.”

The ideas of Mr. Nguyen Van Tai, Vice-Director of Benthanh Tourist, broadened the students’ outlook. Traditional tourism products bore customers, so tourism staff today should not behave like “frogs in a well” and feel satisfied with old products. Both students and tourism staff need to fully understand the great potential of tourism in Vietnam to develop unique and interesting new strategies.

The workshop was an opportunity for DTU lecturers, students and representatives from the Benthanh Tourist Company to share information about jobs, tips about how to improve their foreign language skills, their appearance, about traveling to learn more about famous Vietnamese tourist locations and accumulating the soft skills required to advise and serve local tourists.

On May 31st, DTU will hold a Job Fair which will be attended by many local companies. The Benthanh Tourist will also participate and will recruit some DTU students. This will be a big opportunity for DTU students to research suitable jobs prior to graduation.
