DTU is widely renowned for its strong advancement in the
field of Information Technology. The DTU Board planned a strategy to provide
leading-edge IT education and research and take the responsibility of providing
highly skilled graduates to meet the stringent demands of local businesses and
use their expertise in the socio-economic development of Vietnam.
Internal Strengths
Since its inception,
in response to the Information Technology revolution, DTU has planned that IT should
be one of its major disciplines. DTU and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), one
of the four leading American IT universities, signed an agreement for the
licensing of advanced IT programs to DTU. DTU has also been collaborating on
many IT projects with several other universities and institutes and has organized
and hosted national and international contests and conferences.

IT software applications
have greatly enhanced the efficiency at DTU. E-mail, registration, e-learning,
library and tuition systems help optimize the relationship between instructors
and students. Much IT research and development has been being conducted at DTU,
including mobile application systems, large-scale calculation and archiving
systems, geographic information systems (GIS), and so on. In addition, 3D graphics
systems have also recently been developed at DTU. Using 3D, a variety of
projects to strengthen multiple disciplines have been conducted, such as a miniature 3D representations of Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam and
the My Son Holy Land. This will allow foreign visitors to learn more about
Vietnam. A skeletal muscle model and a circulatory system has also been built,
as well as a 3D documentary about the air war in North Vietnam between the Vietnamese
Air Force and American Air-Naval Force from 1965 to 1972.
Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Vice-Provost, said: "3D technology is an IT tool that now being used in the fields of
medicine, pharmaceuticals, tourism,
environmental studies, electronics and humanities and social science at DTU.”
DTU - A Renowned Brand
Now recognized as a trustworthy local leader in the field of IT, DTU has
played host too many IT conferences and competitions and reaped significant rewards

November 14th was an important date for DTU, when it became the first private university to host the
16th National IT Conference, entitled “Selected Problems about IT and
Telecommunications”. There were more than three hundred participants, including
ten experts from the US, Sweden and Japan. The
conference was attended by Mr. Phung Tan Viet, the Danang People’s Committee
Vice-Chairman, who said: ”Since its establishment, DTU has made
remarkable progress, especially in enhancing international collaboration to
improve the quality of education. DTU has become a prestigious provider of a
well-qualified IT labor force in the Central Region. This conference provides an excellent way of finding
practical solutions to promote IT and overcome the wide-ranging challenges of
network security."
DTU also hosted two other
important competitions in late November 2013. These were the
22nd Olympiad in Informatics for Vietnamese students and the 38th
ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM/ICPC). Competing with students from 71 universities and
colleges nationwide, and 11 well-known universities from
Japan, China, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia, the high-spirited, innovative teams of DTU
students reaped several major awards, including two second-place
prizes, four third and two consolation prizes.
The organizers also awarded
a second prize (the highest in the contest) to DTU in
the Programming Open-Source Software Applications contest, for the MHST13-14 project.
Mr. Truong Tien Vu, Dean of the DTU IT Faculty, said: ”Winning top prizes is a deserved reward for our
DTU students as they have performed very well and overcome fourteen teams in
the preliminaries and finished in the top three in the finals. The MHST13-14 project has both technical and social significance.
We have already received some offers to cooperate with local businesses to develop
this project further. I believe that, with support from DTU and the VFOSSA
business community, the MHST13-14 project will be expanded and put
into practice, especially in technological and educational applications.”
Recently, the organizers of the IX National Renovation contest for
Teenagers presented first-place award
to Nguyen Tran Viet Chuong, a student of DTU K19CMU-TMT, for his computer management software.
Significant
achievements such as these have justified the sustained development in IT at
DTU. Our faculty and students will continue to make remarkable
contributions to the socio-economic development of our country, now and in the
near future.
