DTU Students do Service in the Local Community

Summer is the time for “The Green Summer Campaign”, “The Examination Supporters Campaign” and others, which most students are eager to participate in. These frequent activities have been receiving more and more attention from DTU students, who now have more opportunities to volunteer their services in the local community.

The DTU Volunteer Students Club initiates these events by planning charitable activities for students to attend. Over the past two years, the club has proved to be been an invaluable connection to the community and has had some outstanding achievements.

The main challenge that the club faces is operating costs, which has always been a major concern for the club’s leaders. However, a solution has been found to this problem, with the help of DTU leaders and students.

Donations now come from various sources. Transportation costs are funded by the DTU Board of Rectors, for example, from the sale of used books, clothing and other recyclables and income from other profitable activities, like the sale of flowers on public holidays, Christmas gift delivery, the sale of movie tickets selling and so on, which all boost the club’s budget. The club now has the flexibility to conduct more activities in remote areas thanks to the donations.

The club’s leaders carefully plan their fund-raising activities in advance of each volunteer event. DTU students have visited A Luoi, Tay Giang and Binh Minh, for example. Each of these locations has its own social difficulties and needs and DTU students have contributed a little in raising the living standards in each of these communities.

Contributions of clothing, blankets, books, rice, noodles and so on are purchased from the donations of club members and their supporters. DTU students also help villagers to rebuild roads or houses and clean the streets. Even though some of them have never done those things before, they perform admirably as a team, working happily together with each other. Musical performances are organized for DTU students and local people to get to know each other and have fun together.

Each mission ends with love and fond memories. Life goes on and members of the Volunteer Students Club look forward to other opportunities to share their lives with people less fortunate than themselves.
