The New Nursing School at DTU

On March 1st,2010, the DTU Board of Provosts held a meeting with the Department of Nursing to discuss teaching and enrollment for a new course that has recently been approved by MOET.

Mr. Le Cong Co, DTU Acting Rector, presided over the meeting and listed some issues, including the preparation of the facilities and the need for international assistance to improve the quality of nursing education. “This is a new DTU program, and we must have an appropriate strategy” Mr. Co said.

He reported that the Department of Nursing had signed a commitment for DTU students to intern at the Danang Polyclinic, the C Hospital, Army Hospital 17 and some local medical centers. Its goals are to create a highly qualified nursing staff. Mr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU’s Vice Rector proposed that the Department of Nursing should have its own teaching program, based on a combination of traditional and international education.

Currently, Vietnam is short of nursing staff, especially highly qualified ones. Moreover, there are few educational facilities in this sector, while social’s requirements are growing fast. Therefore, offering nursing studies at DTU is a wise decision to meet the current needs of society. MOET showed very high confidence in DTU when it officially approved the new program in 2010.  DTU is proving that it is a multi - discipline, multi-level university, providing highly qualified graduates for the development of Central Vietnam in particular and the whole country in general.
