Ali Mohamed, an Egyptian student, enrolls in Korean at DTU

Ali Mohamed, a second-year student in the Arabic language program at Al-Azhar University, decided to enroll in the Korean language program at Duy Tan University in Danang, Vietnam, which is twenty hours by air from his home.

Focusing completely on Graphic Design

Since high school, Ali Mohamed has had an interest in Fine Arts and Graphics and wants to become a professional Graphic Designer. As well as studying at high school, Ali Mohamed spent many more hours learning Graphic Design in his spare time. He also attended a course in Art Direction in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, to reach his goal.

“I studied to prepare for university entrance in the morning and design in the evening. Since I really wanted to become a designer, I spent most of my time studying that, which had a negative effect on my high school grades. I was not accepted by the College of Fine Arts at my local university, however, because I love languages, I enrolled in the Arabic Language course at Al-Azhar University.”, explained Ali.

In 2015, Ali started working as a freelance Brand/Graphic designer at Brandizer, a design company, on several projects to promote the company’s image and vision in the Middle East. Then Ali moved to the Pencil Agency, where he was able to freelance in countries such as Canada, the Arabian Gulf, Russia, the Philippines and South Korea. He never gave up on his ambition and continued by working at three more design and advertising agencies to broaden his experience. As a result, he was featured at Adobe on Behance, with more than one-hundred thousand viewers worldwide.

Choosing DTU to realize his dream

Ali Mohamed is particularly interested in Asia and the Vietnamese and Korean markets. He has visited several Asian countries and finally quit his Arabic language program at Al-Azhar University to look for different courses here.

Ali added: “Vietnam and Korea are my target markets. If you want to enter the market of a certain country, knowing their language brings many advantages, which is why I enrolled in Korean language studies as soon as I found out that DTU offered them. I am quite gifted at learning various languages, so I should be able to handle both Korean and Vietnamese studies at the same time.”

Many of Ali’s friends understood his needs and recommended several well-known universities. Ali also researched information on the FreeApply website himself. “All this information made me even more determined to study Korean at DTU,” he said. “Since the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea has been developing strongly, with shared economic and cultural partnerships and potential markets, I will be able to learn Korean in Vietnam and study about the culture, the people and education in both countries to help me in my career planning. DTU has partnered with several Korean universities. I read about the curricula, teaching staff and facilities on the DTU website and I believe that DTU is suitable for me to achieve my goals.”

Ali concluded: “I will still continue my job at the Pencil Agency working remotely, so it will not interfere with my studies at DTU. As soon as I arrive at DTU, I will work hard in my Vietnamese and Korean studies to realize my dream of becoming a designer.”
