As of now, DTU has six ABET-accredited programs, including four previously accredited ones, making it one of the top two universities in Vietnam with the highest number of ABET-recognized programs.
The Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC), under ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, USA), recently announced the accreditation results for two DTU programs:
- Food Technology, and
- Construction Engineering Technology.
These two programs were officially recognized as meeting international ABET standards on 28 August 2025, with the highest accreditation term of six years, based on the assessment conducted from 8 to 10 December 2024.
Thus far, DTU has six ABET-accredited programs, including:
- Network Engineering (accredited August 2019),
- Management Information Systems (accredited August 2019),
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (accredited August 2020), and
- Software Engineering Technology (accredited August 2021).

An overview of the ABET accreditation assessment conducted from December 8 to 10, 2024
DTU is the second university in Vietnam to have ABET-accredited programs (after Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM, in 2014). According to ABET’s announcement, together with Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, DTU is among the top two universities in Vietnam with the highest number of accredited programs: six in total.
Not only remarkable in number, DTU’s programs also stand out for their diversity, having been accredited by three of ABET’s four commissions (the most in Vietnam), namely: EAC (Engineering Accreditation Commission), CAC (Computing Accreditation Commission), and ETAC (Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission).
Ten universities in Vietnam with ABET-accredited programs, including:
- Duy Tan University has 6 programs.
- Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has 6 programs.
- Hanoi University of Industry has 5 programs.
- Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM has 2 programs.
- International University - VNU-HCM has 2 programs.
- Lac Hong University has 2 programs.
- Vietnam Petroleum University has 3 programs.
- Saigon International University has 1 program.
- Tra Vinh University has 1 program.
- Cao Thang College of Technology (HCMC) has 4 programs.
The DTU Food Technology and Construction Engineering Technology programs were highly evaluated by ABET-ETAC across many aspects. Both programs are well-structured and provide in-depth professional knowledge. Students participate in interdisciplinary research projects from their first year. Strong connections with major enterprises, both domestic and international, create internship opportunities and increase employability after graduation.
DTU’s engineering and technology programs are designed with a strong application-oriented approach, following the CDIO (Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate) educational framework, which has been successfully implemented at the university for many years.

The Technology and Engineering fields at DTU consistently rank very highly on global rankings
A particularly important highlight is the Capstone Project, conducted at the end of the program, which enables students to:
- In Food Technology, design or improve food products, research food processing and preservation solutions, or develop new production processes.
- In Construction Engineering Technology, carry out construction design, perform structural calculations, build construction models, or design building systems to ensure efficiency.
This approach not only develops students’ technical expertise but also strengthens teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, equipping them with a comprehensive foundation to become dynamic and innovative engineers.
ABET is the internationally recognized gold standard in Engineering and Technology education in the US. Up to now, hundreds of other universities worldwide have been accredited, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Applied Sciences in Austria, California University in Berkeley (UCB), the Mody University of Science and Technology in India, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Purdue University, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, the AMA Computer University in the Philippines, and many others.

DTU students of Construction programs have won valuable awards in many national and international competitions.
Established in 1932, the ABET Accreditation process is carried out by four accreditation commissions, including:
- The Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC),
- The Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC),
- The Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), and
- The Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC).
To date, 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities in 42 countries have received ABET accreditation. Over 200,000 students graduate from ABET-accredited programs each year, and millions of graduates have received degrees from ABET-accredited programs since 1932.
Unlike the evaluation and recognition methods based on a scale from 1 to 7 (used by AUN-QA and domestic accreditations), programs must meet 100% of ABET's required criteria in order to receive the highest level of ABET accreditation (6 years). If any criterion within the program does not meet ABET's requirements, the program will be considered as having failed accreditation, or it may only be considered for provisional accreditation for a maximum period of 2 years.

DTU students of Food Technology achieve numerous major awards
According to the report from the ETAC-ABET, the DTU Food Technology and Construction Engineering programs have no "Deficiency," "Weakness," or "Concern." This is proof of the quality of education at DTU, fully meeting international standards. Both programs are accredited with the highest accreditation term of six years (until September 30, 2031).
Enjoying a quality learning environment, students in the Construction and Food Technology programs at DTU not only achieve excellent academic results at the university but also make their mark in many large-scale academic competitions, including:
- Champion of the IDEERS Asia-Pacific Contest held in Taiwan (in 2014 and 2023), along with many other high-ranking awards in previous years,
- First prize (in 2010) and Second prize (in 2024) along with 20 other Loa Thanh Prize,
- First prize in Table A “Topics and Technological solutions in Processing at the 2024 Post-Harvest Processing Technology Competition,
- Second prize (in 2024) and Third prize (in 2022) at the Conference on Food Safety and Food Security,
- The Best of Visualization Award at the International PBL Expo 2025 held in Indonesia.
The Technology and Engineering fields at DTU have very high positions on global rankings, specifically:
- Ranked Top 301- 400 globally according to Times Higher Education (THE) 2025,
- Ranked 363 worldwide for Engineering and Technology overall according to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025,
