Hoi An Kien Su is a first-person virtual reality interactive experience developed by Click Studio at DTU. Players use an Oculus Quest VR headset to interact with the environment and complete mini-games, each session lasting between 20-30 minutes.
This technological product combines cultural preservation with gameplay, recreating the ancient town of Hoi An with its events, lifestyle, traditions, and cultural depth from more than 400 years ago. Notably, it portrays the wedding between Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese merchant Araki Sotaro. In Hoi An Kien Su, the player assumes the role of a time-traveling scientist, tasked with returning a 500-year-old jade bracelet to Princess Ngoc Hoa while exploring legendary stories and the distinctive cultural values of Hoi An’s historic trading port during its golden age.

During production, the Click Studio team employed global gaming industry standards such as Unreal Engine 5, along with advanced technologies like Nanite, Lumen, and Blueprint, to deliver high-quality graphics, realistic lighting, and smooth gameplay. Optical motion capture (MOCAP) technology was also utilized, enabling lifelike character animation while saving time in production.

Unlike many commercial games designed to retain players for extended periods, Hoi An Kien Su focuses on short yet high-quality experiences that leave a lasting impression. It follows a “one-touch” design philosophy: a single session is enough for players to carry with them memories of an ancient, vibrant, and culturally profound Hoi An.

More than a mere entertainment product, Hoi An Kien Su contributes to the dissemination of Vietnam’s cultural heritage worldwide.
