With the staggering score of 28.55/30 (9.5 points for each of the three subjects) in the C00 subject set of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, Nguyen Ngoc Diem Quynh is the proud recipient of a full scholarship to study Multimedia Communications at Duy Tan University (DTU).
This accomplishment is even more meaningful given the touching story behind it: of a young woman from a family that never had much financially but who carries within herself a burning aspiration to improve her life.
Family as lighthouse that guides challenging academic journey
Diem Quynh’s childhood was characterized by her mother carrying bundles of used bottles up and down the streets of Huong Thuy, Hue municipality, while her father worked as a bricklayer in the harsh elements of Central Vietnam. Both her parents had a single drive: to earn enough for their children’s education. Every drop of sweat her parents shed for her deepened Diem Quynh’s understanding and belief that education is the only path for her to realize her dream of success and to one day support her family in return.

Her parents’ love and the encouragement from teachers and friends became powerful sources of motivation for Diem Quynh to build resilience and continue studying hard. Her academic record is impressive:
? third prize in Literature at provincial level in 2024–2025,
? consolation prize in Specialized Literature at provincial level in 2023–2024,
? consolation prize in Literature at provincial level in 2023–2024,
? title of “three-good student” at provincial level in 2023–2024,
? Many awards as class Youth Union Secretary in 10th grade and the first half of 11th grade.
Not only is Diem Quynh an excellent student, she is also skilled with her hands. She creates pretty handmade accessories such as hair clips, bracelets, necklaces, and bead chains. She was very surprised when she found her friends loved her handiwork, and when she posted them on her personal Facebook page, many people asked to buy them. And so with a good friend she went for it and launched a dedicated Facebook page to showcase the products she had so conscientiously researched and designed. Her merchandise met with approval from young people and orders began to roll in, bringing great joy to the young Diem Quynh.

“I don’t earn much from sales, but for a high school student like me, it covered some personal expenses and the independence brought me happiness - and I could simply reward myself with books I love once in a while,” Diem Quynh explains. “I also feel like having learned how to balance studying with sales made me grow more mature. Each successful order was like a small lesson in patience, responsibility, and customer care.”
Given her passion for media communication, Diem Quynh created her own TikTok channel to share stories about life, studies, and career orientation. Where making accessories honed her to be meticulous, creative, and attentive to young people’s tastes, TikTok made her confident to speak to a camera and taught her to come up with ideas, video editing, time management, and maintaining consistency in content creation. These skills will be very useful when joining the program in Multimedia Communications she chose to embark on at DTU in 2025.
Only choice: DTU
When she was just 16, Diem Quynh had already clearly and decisively determined her direction. She chose Multimedia Communications at DTU, and to everyone’s surprise she did not register fallback choices.
For most applicants, registering multiple choices of university is a way to play it safe and increase admission chances. But determined as she is, Diem Quynh firmly believes that, with enough willpower and effort, that one door would open. “I think once you’ve set a clear goal, thinking too much about other choices only makes you lose focus,” Diem Quynh says with confidence. “I want to put all my heart and energy into one fitting choice that I can trust. To me, as long as you choose the right university and the right major, you’ll definitely be able to reach your full potential and pursue your passion.”
Diem Quynh’s decisiveness stems from early senior high, when she realized her strengths lay in social sciences, along with her love for creation, communication, and information-sharing. Tenth grade became a turning point: from then on she studied not just to pass exams but also to prepare for the career path she had planned.

“I spent a lot of time researching universities,” Diem Quynh affirms. “The more I learned about DTU, the more confident I felt in my decision. I found that DTU not only has skilled lecturers and modern facilities, but also a high-quality program in the field of multimedia communications that is so dear to me.
“The studying environment here is dynamic, with many clubs, community projects, and innovation & startup contests. This will allow me to gain knowledge and develop practical skills for sure, so that when I enter society, I can confidently prove myself in any position. DTU is also a place that encourages students to think and act boldly and to test new ideas. That’s exactly what I need for a career in the field of communications, which requires creativity, flexibility, and the ability to keep up with trends.”
The affectionate young Diem Quynh also explains that, “DTU is right in Danang, just a short trip from home. I really want to be near my family, because my parents have worked so hard. I want to always be there to take care of them when they fall ill, or simply to enjoy family meals together on weekends. I’m very happy to have received a full scholarship from the university. It’s such a precious gift I dedicate to my parents, to repay their many years of hardship.”
