On April 27, 2025, DTU and the Danang Union organized the Storm-Resistant House Model Design contest for Danang high school students at DTU’s 120 Hoang Minh Thao campus. The competition aimed to spark creativity, raise awareness about natural disaster prevention, and equip students with essential skills for their learning journey and future development.

The event was lively and engaging, with 14 teams from many high schools in Danang, including Le Quy Don high school for the gifted, Thai Phien high school, Son Tra high school, Thanh Khe high school, Hoa Vang high school, Lien Chieu high school, Ngo Quyen high school, Ngu Hanh Son high school, Quang Trung high school, Phan Thanh Tai high school, and Nguyen Khuyen high school.

A large number of students from many different high schools in Danang took part in the competition

“DTU always strives to create meaningful playgrounds for students and works hand-in-hand with high schools to provide opportunities for comprehensive development,” DTU Vice Provost Dr Tran Nhat Tan said at the event. “The Storm-Resistant House Model Design contest inspires passion and enhances creativity, and it helps students practice essential skills such as teamwork, design thinking, and presentation. DTU is committed to continuing to provide professional support and spaces for innovation and creativity where high school students from across the city can fully develop their potential.”

High school students could design and present their ideas for storm-resistant house models

During the competition, students explored and applied knowledge of construction, designed models with their own hands, and presented a wide variety of unique ideas for storm-resistant housing, such as:

-    drawing inspiration from rong houses, floating houses, and sustainable structures around the world,
-    stylized roofs to resist wind and rain,
-    incorporating green energy sources: solar and wind,
-    creative layouts for windows, doors, and emergency staircases,
-    use of materials and building techniques adapted for storm resistance.

Beyond solid technical skills, the students showed a high level of attention to detail in their models - from aesthetics to functionality. Each little structure carried a big message: humanitarian values and the aspiration to create homes that remain safe and firm during storm season.

The Storm-Resistant House Model Design contest for high school students was more than an educational and exciting playground; it ignited passion among young people with an interest in construction & architecture while fostering a sense of responsibility toward community and living environment.
