On November 10, Duy Tan University celebrated its 30th anniversary and officially announced the Prime Minister’s decision to transition to university model.

With the upgrade in the administrative status, Duy Tan has become the first private university in Vietnam to adopt this status, making it the eighth university in the country, alongside Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Thai Nguyen University; Hue University; Danang University; Hanoi University of Science and Technology; and University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City.

Established in 1994, Duy Tan University is one of the first five people-founded universities in Vietnam.

After 30 years of development, the university now has five campuses, covering over 85,000 square meters, with more than 250 practice rooms, laboratories, medical simulation rooms, libraries, and data centers.

The university has built a faculty team of over 1,100 lecturers, with more than 30% holding doctoral degrees or academic titles of Associate Professor and Professor.

Speaking at the decision announcement ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son stated that the establishment and growth of Duy Tan University have contributed to reshaping the public-private structure within the university system, transforming the landscape of higher education.

Not only has the university created numerous jobs for scientists and learning opportunities for many students, but it has also contributed to educational reform, providing a skilled workforce for the nation’s development over the past 30 years.

With Duy Tan University now offering a diverse system of nearly 80 programs across all levels of education, the minister emphasized that its elevation to university system represents a strategic choice in organizational and governance model, demonstrating maturity and an internal drive for new growth.

"I hope that this change is not merely a change in name, but one that brings depth, unleashes creativity, and leads toward modern, intelligent governance."

"Also, I hope the university will operate with a more scientific and advanced governance system, combining greater scale with a higher mission and long-term vision, aiming for sustainable development," expressed Minister Nguyen Kim Son.

Focusing on the areas most needed by the nation

Minister Nguyen Kim Son noted that the development opportunities for the country also represent opportunities for universities. He expressed hope that Duy Tan University will seize these opportunities, accelerating both the pace and quality of its growth.

In particular, he emphasized advancing in new fields of science and cutting-edge technology - areas that are critically needed both now and in the long term - including those that require substantial investment but yield results over time.
