“I’ve visited 115 universities across 18 countries to research and learn,” Hero of Labor and Meritorious Teacher Le Cong Co, Party Committee Secretary and DTU Board of Trustees Chairman, said. “We determined that DTU’s core objective would be, ‘Our profit is student quality.’ Education quality is what we live for, and all for student education, employment, and startups.” This commitment was a key factor in making DTU the first private university in Vietnam to be awarded a higher administrative status thirty years after its establishment.
Education quality as guiding star
Since it was founded on November 11, 1994, DTU has consistently developed through a diverse mix of activities. Improving its education quality has always been the university’s guiding star for both its short-term and its long-term strategies.
Partnerships with universities and companies in Vietnam and abroad
bring internship and job opportunities to DTU students
International collaborations stretching from the US, Canada, the UK, and Germany to Japan, South Korea, and beyond have led to concrete results and fostered sustainable partnerships with many of the world’s leading companies. Samsung has set up two computer labs at DTU to offer training in IoT, AI, and Big Data. The On-Site Study-Abroad American Degree Program (ADP), through a partnership with Troy University, allows students to earn an American degree at DTU. The university also works with Hue University, Hue Central Hospital, Danang Hospital, and a whole lot of universities in various countries that are big in the health sciences, such as the University of Pittsburgh (UPitt), the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and Duke–NUS Medical School (Singapore), to offer training in those special disciplines that are the health sciences.
DTU students can gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment
DTU students feel confident about their progress, thanks to one of the most advanced infrastructures in Central Vietnam and quality education validated through both national and international accreditations. Notably, four of DTU’s programs have earned ABET accreditation, the gold standard for technology & engineering education: Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Management Information Systems, and Electrical Engineering.
Two further programs, International Hospitality Management and International Restaurant Operations Management, have earned UNWTO.TedQual certification, making DTU the first (and to date only) university in Vietnam with this certification.

Many products from DTU’s startup & innovation activities have gone into production and have been offered to the community. The university has donated electric wheelchairs to people with disabilities in several provinces. The “Active Prosthesis” project, which won second prize at SV-STARTUP 2024, features a low-cost, high-quality, safe design tailored to the anatomical characteristics of people with disabilities in Vietnam. The project “A braking system to convert friction into electrical energy” won the Women in Business award at the global final of Go Green in the City in 2018 in Atlanta, US.
Awards at home and abroad highlight the skills and determination of DTU students
The project “A low-cost do-it-yourself water-filtering system for farmers” won the Winner’s Cup at the 2013 CDIO Academy at Harvard University and MIT. DTU students won first prize and the champions’ cup at the IDEERS Asia–Pacific contest in 2014 and 2023 in Taiwan. Additionally, the “System for cardiopulmonary resuscitation simulation training” has been commercialized and transferred to Well-Being Services health education. In September 2024, the DTU Center for Modeling & Simulation (CVS) introduced the “Comprehensive simulation & interaction in smart automotive technology training”, which allows students to practice with comprehensive simulation technology to acquire knowledge of automotive engineering & mechanics. DTU has signed agreements to transfer and commercialize this product to a vocational school, a college, and a university for student training.
With its steadfast perspective of “innovation and a strong desire to build Duy Tan University into a robust, comprehensively developed, and sustainable institution”, DTU went through countless difficulties the last thirty years under the leadership of Hero of Labor and Meritorious Teacher Le Cong Co, Party Committee Secretary and DTU Board of Trustees Chairman, and on October 7, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed decision nr. 1115/QD-TTg, officially upgraded the administrative status of DTU.
To attain this status, government decree 99 of 2019 requires institutions to meet three conditions: being legally accredited for quality standards; having at least three member schools and ten doctoral programs, with a student body of over 15 thousand; and having obtained approval from the immediate governing agency and investors.
