Five people from Vietnam, all lecturers and researchers from DTU, attended the ISTTE 2024 conference held from October 14 to 16, 2024, at the School of Hotel & Tourism Management (SHTM) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University - a globally top-ranked institution in tourism studies for many years.
The five talks that the DTU scientist presented at the conference drew significant praise, and the talks by Vice - Provost of the DTU School of Hospitality and Tourism (HTi) Dr Bui Kim Luan and Head of the DTU Graduate School Dr Nguyen Cong Minh won Best Case Study awards. These achievements further affirm DTU’s capabilities and standing in tourism research.

The ISTTE 2024 was the 43rd annual installment organized by the International Society of Travel & Tourism Educators (ISTTE). The prestigious event brings together educators and professionals in travel & tourism education from over 25 countries and regions, including the US, Australia, the UK, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (RoC).
On the theme “changing paradigms in hospitality/tourism education & research”, the ISTTE 2024 conference focused on major changes in tourism education & research, giving center stage to many innovative perspectives and solutions to improve tourism education & training in a rapidly globalizing world. With over fifty talks from prestigious universities and leading scholars worldwide, this year’s conference provided a rich academic environment facilitating the sharing of experiences, the exchange of ideas, and mutual learning.
Among the international participants, DTU stood out as the sole representative from Vietnam, underscoring the country’s progress in tourism education in its efforts towards global integration and elevating its global standing. The DTU research team prepared five talks for the conference. These contained unique findings and contributed pioneering perspectives on new trends and methods in tourism education.
After the presentations, the DTU lecturers outstandingly received two Best Case Study awards (out of six awarded to outstanding presentations at the conference), with the following talks:
? Best Case Study 1 for “Mega-Events as Catalysts for Urban Regeneration” by Dr Bui Kim Luan,
? Best Case Study 2 for “Strategic Influencer Marketing to Affluent Millennials” by Dr Nguyen Cong Minh.
This is a remarkable achievement, as the ISTTE conference attracts top researchers from leading universities worldwide. DTU was not only the sole representative from Vietnam but also among the few institutions to win awards at the conference, besting universities with global prestige.

The conference furthermore opened opportunities for us to establish extensive relationships with international educators, laying the foundation for future international collaborations.”
DTU’s success at the 43rd ISTTE conference attests to the relentless efforts of the university’s staff and lecturers and also reinforces its ambition to contribute to making Vietnam a prominent center in tourism education.
