With a total score of 27.53/30 in the 2024 High School Graduation Exam (HSGE), the energetic Doan Ha Quyen from Phan Boi Chau senior high in Gia Lai has chosen to pursue the Troy program in Tourism & Hotel Management at DTU. She has been awarded a valuable full scholarship, completely covering tuition throughout her four years at DTU.
Born in Hanoi but raised in Pleiku, Ha Quyen loves exploring the wild and majestic beauty of the forested mountains. To her, being immersed in the untouched beauty of rivers and lakes, mountains and hills, and primary forests is a truly valuable experience.
Through her pursuit of the Troy program in Tourism & Hotel Management,
Ha Quyen aspires to promote the beauty of her homeland
“When the weather’s fine, my close friends and I would often rise early for a hike to Nui Da mountain to watch the sunrise, or we’d go late afternoon for the sunset,” Ha Quyen explains. “This rugged mountain is a favorite among travel enthusiasts for its panoramic view of Pleiku and its stunning view of the sky. My friends and I also frequent other scenic spots in Gia Lai, such as Pleiku lake, Hang En cave waterfall, and Tan Son dam, where we take pictures and detox when we’re stressed out from our studies. Standing surrounded by the breathtaking nature of my homeland, I always feel like I should introduce Gia Lai to both local and international peers as a Vietnamese highlands city that’s worth visiting.”
Describing herself as a very practical person, Ha Quyen explains she made her own choice of major and university after considering the advice of those around her. “I’m confident of my choice for DTU because during my research I found that DTU students are always highly regarded, and DTU consistently ranks among the top universities in Vietnam and worldwide. I believe that, with its modern facilities, high-quality training, and dynamic learning environment, the university will allow me to fully develop my strengths.”
As an outgoing person, Ha Quyen would love to work in tourism. “The field offers young people like me many opportunities for learning, networking, and experience. I hope that pursuing the Troy program in Tourism & Hotel Management - an On-Site Study-Abroad program of Troy University, an American Degree Program or ADP at DTU - will provide me with the knowledge and skills necessary to get access to many good job opportunities in the future. Besides choosing tourism as a personal passion, I also dream of one day having the financial means to take my mother traveling to many beautiful places both in Vietnam and abroad.”

A passionate reader, Thanh Truc is sure to become a regular visitor to the DTU library
“Self-study remains paramount,” Thanh Truc says on how to achieve such high scores across subjects. “It’s only when you’re focused on your studies that you can achieve the results you desire. I love reading books to gain more knowledge and to cultivate patience by pondering on every page.” She also shares a truckload of favorite books. It seems certain that she will become a regular visitor to the DTU library.
Truc believes that choosing to study at DTU was a fortunate decision. “I know that many DTU students from higher years now have very good jobs. After researching the school more thoroughly, I was impressed by its modern facilities, the dynamism of the students, and the high-quality teaching. When I shared my decision with my family, my parents fully supported and trusted my choice. This made me very happy and gives me confidence as I begin this new chapter in my life.”
The young woman from mountain city Gia Lai also impresses with her strong and optimistic personality. “It happens that I feel stressed about my studies, and then I always remind myself how fortunate I am to still be able to study and be myself. That’s how I always find the motivation to push harder. I’ve long dreamt of becoming a lawyer, so I’m very happy with the opportunity to study the field I love and that fits my abilities, and I’ll do my best. I furthermore have experience in media work from when I was in school, so I plan to participate in the lively media activities at DTU to improve my skills in communication and interpersonal relationships.”
NONG THI KIEU: Pursuing knowledge to transform life
Born and raised in Lang Son, Nong Thi Kieu is the second of four siblings. From a young age, Kieu demonstrated a strong love of learning and she consistently excelled during her three years at Loc Binh senior high. She maintained the title of skilled student and served as class vice-president.
After graduating from high school in 2018, Kieu could not continue her education due to financial difficulties and she had to find work. She did a great many jobs, like sales and restaurant waitress, to make a living and support her family. Despite having a hard time making ends meet, Kieu never lost her determination and passion, and her dream of attending university continued burning bright.
For Kieu, it’s never too late for an education
“My inspiration comes from Miss Vietnam H’Hen Nie,” Kieu confides. “She said, ‘If I can do it, so can you,’ and that gives me the strength to work hard and overcome the difficulties and challenges of life. The years that I had to work not only gave me life experience but also reinforced my determination to acquire knowledge to change my life. And now that conditions allow, I’ve decided to continue the dream I left hanging when I was 18.”
With strong support from her family, Kieu successfully passed the 2024 HSGE with an impressive score of 27.43/30 to officially become a class-K30 freshman in DTU’s PSU-standard program in Tourism & Travel Management. “As a young person passionate about travel and experiencing, I want to explore the beauty of all provinces in Vietnam, and eventually the world,” Kieu explains. “I want to learn more about the culture and customs of different ethnic groups and to introduce Vietnam’s rich heritage to peers worldwide. These aspirations led me to Tourism & Travel Management.
“I chose DTU because it’s a prestigious university in tourism training. After researching the university and especially after visiting, I was even more impressed by its modern facilities and diverse extracurricular activities. I hope that, during my time at DTU, I’ll gain a wealth of knowledge and skills and also have many opportunities to connect with businesses and find employment after graduation.”
