In 2020-2021 DTU Awards Scholarships Totaling 30 Billion Dong

At the 2020-2021 opening ceremony, DTU and several local and national companies awarded scholarships totaling 30 billion dong, to motivate students to work harder to realize their ambitions. These consisted of 84 full scholarships, worth 10.5 billion, and 109 partial scholarships of 6 billion. Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President, presented a full scholarship to top student Nguyen Thi Khanh Chi and Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Provost awarded others.

Nguyen Thi Khanh Chi, with the highest HSGE score of 28/30, was also given a laptop when she enrolled in the Keuka Business Administration American degree in Vietnam program. “I want to study hard in order to repay my parents who have endured great difficulties and hardship to send me to school,” said Khanh Chi. “I believe that a good education is the only way out of poverty and into a brighter future. Recently, I researched many universities to identify the one most appropriate to my needs and ability. I’m thankful that DTU offers such useful scholarships.”
 
DTU also set aside a large number of scholarship vouchers, totaling 14 billion dong, for K26 students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and storms in Central Vietnam. In addition, the Hospitality & Tourism Institute (HTi) awarded 40 "Global Student Exchange" scholarships worth $4,000 for 6 months and $ 8,000 for 12 months. Dr. Lim Sang Taek, the HTi Director, also awarded 16 scholarships, worth 3 million dong each to Hospitality & Tourism students.
 
On January 9, DTU celebrated the 71st Vietnamese Student Day and awarded scholarships to those who had already won national and international prizes: 
 
- 22 scholarships, worth 50 million vnd, to CMU, PSU and CSU students
- Scholarships worth 80 million to the 14 groups and 36 students who had previously won other contests 
- The best 141 students of 2019-2020, who were presented awards totaling 141 million vnd.       
 
Scholarships from local business 
 
DTU has built strong relationships with several businesses in Danang and in other provinces, in support of education and research and to offer students broader internship and job opportunities. Those companies have always recognized their ability and visited DTU to award more scholarships in 2020-2021, including: 
 
• 100 million dong from Vinaconex Corporation, 
• 30 million dong from Long Binh Joint Stock Company,
• 25 million dong Nam Duoc Joint Stock Company,   
• 20 million dong from Hong Linh Co.Ltd, 
• 20 million dong from Agribank, 
• 20 million dong from Phu Cuong Viet Co.Ltd, 
• 10 million dong from LUMI Architecture Co.Ltd,
• 10 million dong from VIETTEL Danang, 
• 10 million dong from Vietravel Danang.

DTU will also organize events in cooperation with local business to alleviate damage recently encountered during the storms in Central Vietnam. On November 22, Mr. Ha Hai, Deputy-Chairman of the HCMC Bar Association, said: “In order to help students affected by the recent natural disasters, we will award DTU students scholarships to help them continue to afford their higher education”.
 
On January 9, local companies also awarded scholarships and Certificates of Merit to the top DTU students: 
 
- Boeing awarded 8 scholarships, worth 74 million vnd, to CMU students
- Pennsylvania State University awarded 10 scholarships, worth 70 million vnd, to PSU students
- CalPoly State University awarded 1 scholarship, worth 7 million vnd, to a CSU student
 
“Students from Central Vietnam are always at a disadvantage compared with those from other regions,” explained Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co. “So, in addition to scholarships based on academic merit, the University and partners will always support students caught in natural disasters. The University is deeply touched by the goodness of the organizations, businesses and philanthropists who lend them a hand.”
