Duy Tan Dream
Saying Goodbye to Dr. Don Summers
Ladies
and Gentlemen, today, we are gathering here to say good bye to one of our
dearest friends: Prof. Dr. Donald B. Summers. If anything that could be said
about Don, it is that he is a very, very good and friendly and caring husband
and father, who is most loved by his beloved wife Linda and his two wonderful
daughters Emily and Cailen, and of course, even by his little dog... Barclay.
Here, in Da Nang, at Duy Tan University, even though Dr. Don Summers has
volunteered to work with us for only a short period of time, he is widely known
and respected for his expertise and for his dedication to our students and
faculty members. His work in the fields of Social Venture and Social Businesses
over the years remained to be of great value to universities and colleges in
the Northwest region of America like Seattle Pacific University, Seattle
University, University of Washington, etc. His care and dedication for Social
Venture and Social Businesses, however, goes beyond that when he brought the
benefits of his work to other countries outside America like China, Spain,
Korea and Vietnam.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh delivers a funeral oration in praise
of Dr.
Don Summers upon his funeral
Don, you can be proud of so much that you have done for us, our students and colleagues love you!
In
his final days started from only a little more than four months ago, Dr. Don
Summers has always showed signs of courage and determination, that his health
was failing but his will would not. Even after a life-and-death surgery,
nothing would be able to stop him from his work and his students. He still
traveled to Vietnam to complete his work for the Social Venture Plan
Competition in South East Asia. He died doing what he always loved to do.
Don,
with your strong will, whatever journey lies ahead of you, be it to heaven or
over the Cascades, we have faith that you will make it there. We wish you good
luck, you will always be remembered here at Duy Tan University, and in our
hearts.
