Ly Thi Men, a student of Business Law at DTU, and her teammates from the Run team, impressively won a silver and a bronze medal at the Vietnam Mediation Moot 2025.

The achievement is especially meaningful for Men, as she has just officially graduated summa cum laude from DTU as salutatorian with a GPA of 3.85/4. She was also the DTU applicant with the highest High-School Graduation Exam score of 29.75/30 in 2021.

From the very beginning, Men set herself a serious study plan, determined to maintain her strong academic record and realize her goals and aspirations. Beyond her hard schoolwork, she also participated in various competitions to “train the mind, strengthen the heart” and enhance her knowledge and skills to do well in her professional work later on.

Most recently, Men demonstrated her outstanding capabilities at the Vietnam Mediation Moot 2025. This major annual academic law contest is organized by the Vietnam International Commercial Mediation Center (VICMC) and the Vietnam Mediation Center (VMC). The competition attracted 733 contestants across 201 teams from 28 universities and other institutions offering legal training nationwide.

Alongside the other members of the Run team, Men handled a variety of contest situations related to legal disputes:

-    a dispute over a cooperation contract for installing and supplying solar power,
-    an internal conflict that arose after an investment partnership,
-    a dispute over the ownership of a well-known candy trademark.

Serving as the enterprise’s lawyers, Men and her teammates were responsible for protecting the legal rights and interests of the business assigned to their team.

“This was a very difficult task,” Men explains. “Because to perform well, a company representative must not only have solid legal knowledge but also flexible soft skills - to protect the business’s interests while avoiding harm to the relationship with the opposing party. With that in mind, we always had it clear that the goal was not to beat them, but to come to a win–win situation. This approach is what allowed us to protect our client’s legitimate interests and won both the silver and bronze medals at the competition.”

The achievements of Men and the other members in DTU’s Faculty of Law team are more than just awards. They are evidence of the strong legal mindset, effective communication skills, deep empathy, and flexible improvisation shown by these DTU students on the path towards becoming professional legal practitioners.

Steadfastness of student who keeps flame of justice alive

Every year of her four years at university, Men earned the title of excellent student. As an energetic class president, she always worked hard to improve herself and to affirm the spirit of DTU’s Law students. Her efforts brought her an impressive list of awards:

-    silver and bronze medals at Vietnam Mediation Moot 2025,
-    third prize at 5th “Students’ Creativity and Intellectual Property Rights” contest in 2025,
-    consolation prize at the 4th “Students’ Creativity and Intellectual Property Rights” contest in 2024,
-    second prize in scientific research at the DTU School of Humanities, Language, & Social Sciences (LHSS) in 2023.

Throughout her studies at DTU, Men not only focused on mastering important subjects such as Civil Law, Criminal Law, Commercial Law, and specialized courses in Litigation and Critical Thinking. She also constantly sought opportunities to gain real-world experience to strengthen her knowledge base, sharpen her logical thinking, and develop the essential skills required to confidently pursue a legal career.

Men always works hard to improve herself every day and to pursue the ideals she has chosen

“Already during the summer semester of my second year, I went to the People’s Court of Son Tra district to learn the profession, and I got a lot of valuable experience,” Men explains. “I had direct exposure to trial procedures; studied real case files; drafted notices, decisions, and judgments; and learned how a judicial agency operates. Those months of learning allowed me to refine my ability to analyze case files, my legal reasoning, and the professionalism required of a law student.”

In addition to her outstanding academic achievements, Men also served as deputy secretary of the Faculty Union and as president of the Faculty Student Association. She led, organized, and participated in many major Union & Association activities of the Faculty of Law and DTU, such as “Beloved Moon”, “Warm Spring”, “International Day”, “DTU Color Festival”, and the labor law awareness program of 2024. She also received numerous commendations for outstanding work for Union and student movement.

For Men, the all-night study sessions with friends to tackle complex legal scenarios and the lively classroom debates led by their instructors on pressing social issues have become unforgettable memories.

“I sincerely appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm of the lecturers at the Faculty of Law,” Men affirms. “They not only taught us knowledge; they also inspired our professional passion and helped me clearly define my career path. Carrying the desire to help protect justice and contribute positive value to the community, I’ll continue working hard every day to improve myself and pursue the ideals I’ve chosen.”

From the moment she chose to study Business Law (talent program, HP) at the Faculty of Law, DTU School of Humanities, Language, & Social Sciences, Men has wanted to become a skilled lawyer with deep and broad understanding and a firm grasp of the law, to support vulnerable individuals and help businesses operate and produce with security.
