Gold award for the poster “Happy New Year of the Year of the Snake”
The gold award won by student Ha Phuong Thanh for the poster design “Happy New Year of the Year of the Snake” is inspired by the snake mascot and traditional ethnic brocade patterns of Vietnam’s ethnic groups. Thanh’s design not only conveys New Year wishes but also tells a story of Vietnamese culture through a modern design language that is both close to tradition and in tune with contemporary trends.
Phuong Thanh said: “The image of the snake - the mascot of the year 2025 - is stylized softly and adorned with traditional brocade patterns as a way to honor national identity.
I chose warm tones to express joy, reunion, and prosperity, which are characteristic of Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year). Details such as coins, dong leaves, and apricot flowers were carefully included with specific intentions to create depth of meaning and visual rhythm.”
Phuong Thanh’s internationally awarded works clearly demonstrate her creative personality, sharp aesthetic thinking, and deep love for Vietnamese culture. Each of Thanh’s products shows meticulous composition, sophisticated use of color, and storytelling ability through images. More than just design, Thanh transforms traditional cultural values into visual inspiration, helping Vietnamese identity shine on the international competitions

“From the moment I started designing, I wanted the logo not only to be symbolic but also to have depth and the ability to tell a story. I chose Bai Dinh Pagoda as the creative foundation because of its architectural beauty and because it embodies the distinctive cultural and spiritual identity of the Vietnamese people.
I spent a lot of time researching the meanings of the lotus flower, bodhi leaf, pagoda tower, and surrounding landscape to create a design that is both inspiring and practical, while expressing serenity, solemnity, yet remaining familiar and rich in Vietnamese essence,” said Quynh Tram.
After long hours of dedicated study in the lecture halls, Quynh Tram is passionate about exploring various forms of art: from illustration, photography, graphic design to installation art, and more.
"I am lucky to have received supports from DTU lecturers, who not only enthusiastically impart knowledge but also inspire me on every step of my creative journey.
I am especially grateful to Graphic Designer and Architect Nguyen Tri Phuong Dong, a respected mentor who supported me throughout the competition. He shared valuable practical experience with me, helping me understand that a design work must not only be beautiful but also carry a clear message and identity," Quynh Tram shared.
