DTU Students of Hospitality Do Internships at International Companies and Make 4 Figures a Month

Since a partnership agreement was signed with the five-star Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel of Marriott International on November 12, 2024, about thirty to forty students of DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute (HTi) a year do internships at this prestigious hotel and earn a salary of up to 7,000 HKD (about 23 million VND) per month.

This is also what many DTU students of hospitality receive when interning at other major hotels, like Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung. For many years, DTU students of hospitality have consistently been receiving high praise for their professional skills and foreign language proficiency, and they are often paid very well when doing internships at reputable hospitality enterprises both in Vietnam and abroad.

A proud and valuable learning journey

Interning and working at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel is a dream for many young people, especially for those studying hospitality in Vietnam. This is a renowned five-star hotel belonging to Marriott International, a group that owns a chain of over seven thousand of the world’s biggest and top-tier hotels, with 30 different brands across more than 130 countries and territories.

Interns from DTU at Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel

Internships quality and the outstanding feedback from both customers and managers regarding the DTU students of hospitality have encouraged the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel to continue welcoming interns from DTU. With thirty to forty students interning there annually, this is a rare opportunity for students to improve their professional skills and their foreign language abilities - to confidently enter the workforce right after graduation.

“I’m currently interning in the F&B department at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong,” Le Khoi Nguyen, a student of Tourism & Hospitality Management at DTU, shares his experience with the internship of this dreams. “Besides the monthly salary of 7,000 HKD, I receive additional perks like health insurance, free meals, and complimentary access to the hotel’s gym and swimming pool. The specialized knowledge and language skills I gained at DTU have been very important and helpful in my current role. Moreover, the training I received at university on behavior, attitude, communication styles, workplace etiquette, and many other things has been a solid foundation for adapting to this international work environment.”

DTU students intern in real-world environments in multiple countries

Just like Khoi Nguyen, Nguyen Vuong Thuc Khanh is studying Hotel Management at DTU and was selected for the paid internship program at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong. “7,000 HKD is a dream for a student still in school, and I’m really happy, as it greatly exceeds my expectations and my family’s,” Thuc Khanh says. “When I just started the internship at Renaissance Harbour View Hotel Hong Kong, I was surprised by the intense workload, but with the knowledge and skills I had learned, I was able to rapidly and gradually adapt and I’ve even been improving my knowledge of the local language to use in addition to English and be more flexible in communication.”

Enterprises highly appreciate competency of DTU students of hospitality

In addition to the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View, the DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute can offer its students a wide range of internship opportunities through partnerships with numerous reputable companies in Vietnam and abroad:

?    16 students are currently doing internships at Four Points by Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung,
?    15 students are doing internships at Sheraton,
?    6 students are doing internships at Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View,
?    Dinh Thi Ngoc Huyen, Pham Vu Phong, and Vo Truc Quynh are doing internships at Le Meridien Chiangmai, Thailand,

Throughout their internships, the DTU students receive consistently positive evaluations. The international companies often view the DTU students not merely as temporary trainees but as potential employees after they graduate, thanks to the good impression they leave with their language skills, professionalism, and eagerness to learn. Many partners have expressed willingness to increase the number of HTi interns and offer to officially hire them after.

“Go global”: More than just a slogan

“Go global”, the inspiring motto of HTi Provost Dr Mo Chul Min, former Vice Minister of Culture, Sports, & Tourism of South Korea, has driven the university to expand international partnerships and help students secure internships and jobs in developed countries like the US, Japan, the UK, and France. This reflects the university’s persistent efforts to provide students with valuable real-world experiences, well-paying jobs with attractive perks, and opportunities to pursue their career dreams in an international environment. “Go global” is therefore not just a slogan, but a guiding principle for the future of higher education in Vietnam and one of the values that DTU is putting to practice every single day.

Partnerships with Pennsylvania State University (US) and UNWTO.TedQual accreditation

support DTU students with global opportunities for learning and work

One of the key reasons that HTi students of hospitality can meet the high standards of international corporations is the university’s rigorous preparation of its lecturers, besides the advanced and high-quality curriculums.

Over the years, DTU students of hospitality have followed curriculums imported from Pennsylvania State University (PSU) , one of the top 50 institutions for economics and business administration in the US (according to U.S. News 2024) and one of the top 5 institutions for tourism training worldwide (according to UNWTO):

?    PSU-standard Tourism & Hospitality Management,
?    PSU-standard Tourism & Travel Management, and
?    PSU-standard Tourism & Restaurant Operations Management.

Two of the tourism programs that DTU offers have achieved TedQual accreditation, a globally leading quality assurance awarded by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO):

?    International Hotel Management, and
?    International Restaurant Operations Management.

Thanks to these achievements, many classes of DTU students of hospitality have acquired solid knowledge, outstanding professional expertise, and the ability to shine with their own personal brand and to confidently meet and conquer new challenges in the global tourism & hospitality industry. These values not only meet recruiters’ expectations but also spread the image of a bold, confident, and globally integrated generation of Vietnamese students - a valuable pool of manpower for both local and international labor markets.
