Opportunities for American Master's Degree
The joint training program between the two universities will initially be offered in three key fields:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI),
- Software Engineering (SE), and
- Computer Science (CS)
Students will study the first year at DTU. After meeting the academic and English proficiency requirements (IELTS 6.5), they will transfer to the University of Cincinnati to complete their studies and earn a Master's Degree.
“The agreement signed today is the result of a long process of discussions, learning, and reaching consensus on many important goals,” Dr Raj Mehta, Vice Provost for International Affairs & Director of the University of Cincinnati Honors Program, explained.
“I believe this marks a meaningful beginning to deeper and broader collaborations in the future, starting with key areas like artificial intelligence, software engineering, and computer science - fields that are set to reshape how the world operates.
“As one of the oldest universities in the US, we are always excited to visit youthful institutions like DTU. DTU may still be rather young, but that’s exactly why you have such wonderful energy, enthusiasm, and innovative spirit. This has a truly positive impact on us.
“The founding story of DTU and the vision of its founder are a powerful source of inspiration, not only for people in Vietnam but also for us.”

Providing high-quality IT workforce
The high-quality IT and AI talent trained through this program will provide reassurance to employers, as graduates will hold a Master's degree from a prestigious top-tier university in the U.S. like the University of Cincinnati.
Founded in 1819, the University of Cincinnati is the second-largest public university in Ohio and is among the largest universities in the U.S., with over 46,000 students, including more than 2,900 international students.
The University of Cincinnati is globally recognized for its groundbreaking contributions, such as the development of the oral polio vaccine and the first antihistamine drug (Benadryl). Each year, the university invests over $400 million in scientific research, with notable strengths in Medicine, Science, Engineering, Education, and the Arts.
The university was ranked 195th in the 2024 Leiden Ranking. Many famous individuals have studied or worked at the University of Cincinnati, including William Howard Taft (27th President of the United States), Charles Dawes (30th Vice President of the United States), and Neil Armstrong (the first person to walk on the moon).

“Today’s cooperation agreement is a milestone affirming our shared vision in developing high-quality graduate education,” DTU Provost Dr Le Nguyen Bao emphasized the significance of the partnership. “The core focus of this agreement is on collaboration in training human resources in artificial intelligence, software engineering, and computer science - key fields for the near future.
“This collaboration goes beyond just that, though. During my many personal visits to the University of Cincinnati, I always feel that there’s so much more DTU can learn, such as the Co-op or Cooperative Learning model - an educational approach joining the university with businesses which the University of Cincinnati has been developing for over a hundred years from vocational to undergraduate and graduate education. In Vietnam, this remains a relatively new concept in practice.
“Learning new and advanced techniques and learning from the Co-op model from a pioneering institution like the University of Cincinnati is a precious chance that will allow us to grow more comprehensively - not only in areas like information technology, AI, and semiconductor circuits, but also potentially in other fields like medicine, pharmacy, and digital marketing.”
The MoU signing with the University of Cincinnati is part of DTU strong internationalization efforts for the next three years.
Earlier, on May 29, 2024, DTU signed a 3+2 Joint Degree Program with Chungbuk National University (South Korea), allowing students to earn both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree after 5 years of study.
The first 8 DTU students flew to South Korea on March 1, 2025, to begin the program, demonstrating the timeliness and practical effectiveness of the international cooperation models that DTU is pursuing.
