“After seven years of studies, the first class of Medical Practitioner of the DTU College of Medicine & Pharmacy graduates, with 100% of students receiving honors,” DTU Vice - Provost and College of Medicine & Pharmacy Provost Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Ngoc Minh said at the graduation ceremony. “DTU’s first class of General Practitioner graduates today completely according to their training schedule, which includes one year of training in general English and specialized English. The course continued through the more than years the Covid-19 pandemic raged and training institutions were far removed from one another, but it’s these very difficult and special circumstances which allowed the students of the first medical class of the university, with the active support of the hospitals in Danang and especially of Hue Central Hospital and with the modern practice facilities and full equipment, to practice their profession and to acquire practical experience, to confidently start a career in the real world.”

…and awarding Master’s degrees

Ever since it was started in 2015, the major of General Practitioner has always attracted large numbers of students of quite high quality. Unlike other medical universities in Vietnam, where training for General Practitioner takes six years, DTU applies a seven-year training model. The difference is that the first year of the main training time is devoted to learning general English and specialized English for medicine. On this basis, students can study several basic science and medical foundational subjects in the first years in English. This is also the foundation allowing DTU students of Medical Practitioner to study the six subsequent years not only with Vietnamese lecturers, but also with foreign experts, medical doctors, and physicians. Of note, DTU students of medicine are able to access and consult specialized documentation and practice in English with new documents and research from the international medical community, which is all in English.

Another difference of the DTU training program for General Practitioner is that students study with textbooks based on those of the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), which has the largest-scale training programs in medicine & pharmacy in the US, and the University of Pittsburgh, ranked fifth in the top 15 of universities with best medicine research in the US. Furthermore, DTU students of medicine study with very modern training methods thanks to advanced laboratories for medical simulations (MedSims) and the “3D Virtual Reality Application to Simulate the Human Body for Health Science Education & Research”.

DTU and Danang Hospital signed an agreement

DTU granted and awarded Master’s degrees to 9 students of Pharmacology Management and 20 students of international Nursing from joint training with Fooyin University in Taiwan, and degrees to 88 students of its first class of General Practitioner, among which 12 graduated summa cum laude, 67 magna cum laude, and 9 cum laude.

“The graduation ceremony is not a ceremony to end your studies, but to start a journey of even further learning in the future,” Dean of the Fooyin University School of Nursing Prof. Chih-Ling Huang said to congratulate the newly graduating Masters on their happy day. “I know you studied and worked very conscientiously to complete your Master’s theses. And today, your efforts received their worthy rewards. I wish you to reap even more success in the future.”

In name of Hue Central Hospital, DTU’s collaborating hospital according to government decree numbered. 111, Hue Central Hospital Director Prof. Dr Pham Nhu Hiep said, “I’m much honored to be here for today’s graduation ceremony. When we established our relationship with the university, we had a lot of discussions about plans to implement DTU’s training activities at Hue Central Hospital. In particular, the DTU Faculty of Medicine & Pharmacy, which is now the College of Medicine & Pharmacy, was furthermore the first such college to sign an agreement with us according to government decree numbered 111, which regulates training & practice management in the health sciences. Since then, DTU has been sending its medical students to Hue Central Hospital for internships, and throughout these internships we have highly appreciated DTU’s medical students for their diligence and eagerness to learn. We hope the university will continue building on its training results to improve student quality even more and to create a tradition of medical students at DTU.”

As part of the ceremony, DTU and Danang Hospital signed an agreement to even more improve training quality in the health sciences. Danang Hospital is a leading hospital in Central Vietnam and the highest-level hospital of Danang. It examines and treats people from Danang and the provinces of Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. The agreement between Danang Hospital and DTU will provide students of the health sciences with additional study and practice opportunities at a prestigious and high-quality institution.
