DTU Offers Several New Majors for 2021 Enrollment

In 2021, DTU will offer 13 new majors and minors in several different fields. The new disciplines have been compiled methodically, meticulously and thoughtfully and will provide 2021 applicants more choice, enable them to eventually meet the latest employment requirements and a competitive advantage in job-hunting.

Each building on the Hoa Khanh Nam campus is a “headquarters”, providing modern equipment for study and practice. Building A provides kitchens and hotel rooms for hospitality training, buildings B, D and E contain modern training equipment for mechanical engineering, electronics and car maintenance, building C contains pharmaceutical laboratories and building F offers medical consulting rooms, designed like a mini hospital.
 
New majors in Computer Engineering and Data Communications
 
The DTU School of Computer Engineering has introduced three new majors, Computer Engineering, Data Science Computer Networks and Data Communications, and one new minor in Game Design and Multimedia.
 
Danang won the 2020 Vietnam Smart City Award, organized by the Vietnam Association for Software & IT Services and led in the Vietnamese ICT Index, which measures information & communications technology (ICT) applications over the years. The city has attracted an increasing number of game and technology companies, such as Gameloft VN’s Game Studio, FPT Online, VNG, GlassEgg, Vietnam Esports and Vinagame. Its strategic plan for 2030, with view to 2045, includes the development of information technology, electronics and telecommunications as part of its digital economy, which is one of its five objectives. Meanwhile, the demand for qualified IT resources in Danang and elsewhere is expected to increase dramatically.

DTU students study in classrooms with the latest computer equipment
 
DTU has invested heavily in modern IT equipment and infrastructure. The Silver Swallows Studio, the Company for Visualization & Simulation and the Microsoft Innovation Center have implemented many practical IT projects, providing a spacious, creative environment to enhance practical experience.
 
In 2021, the latest IT majors and minors in IT and computer engineering. They all meet the highest international criteria and are recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Association for Computing Machinery. The courses integrate the various technologies of the world’s leading corporations, such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and Cisco, and are taught by lecturers with years of practice.
 
Japanese Language major
 
According to the Japan External Trade Organization in HCMC, two thousand Japanese businesses made investments in Vietnam up to early 2020, and 64% planned to expand even further. Since then, in the post-Covid-19 period and trade war, the Japanese have chosen Vietnam for investment and production restructuring and the ensuing, multifaceted business relationships between the two countries have increased career job opportunities for Vietnamese students, especially for those fluent in the Japanese language, at level 5 or above in the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework, in addition to efficiency in:
 
- Communicating in Japanese, in an office setting and economic environments, and the ability to work effectively in international business, in various professional roles
- Translation and interpretation of work-related content involving culture, the economy, politics and society
- An in-depth understanding of the Japanese culture, linguistic and cultural comparisons
 
 
Smart Tourism and International Tour Guide courses
 
In 2021, the DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute (HTi) is offering one new major in Tourism, with a minor in Smart Tourism, and three new International Tour Guide minors, in English, Korean and Chinese.
 
The introduction of IT communication applications in the developing tourism industry is now responding to the diversified customer requirements. Today, progressive hospitality companies are leading the way in actively promoting themselves as Smart businesses.

DTU Hospitality students visit local hotels on special DTU buses
 
Hotels, restaurants, and entertainment establishments now have websites detailing their offerings and clients have smartphones to research the information and make transactions. The demand from businesses and customers alike is now too high however and expert Hospitality professionals with a sound understanding of how to solve issues during the 4.0 revolution are required, worldwide. DTU is offering the new Hospitality major with a minor in Smart Tourism, to address this acute shortage.
 
The main features of the DTU Smart Tourism course are:
 
- Situational teaching
- Theory linked to practice
- Focus on skills training
 
The Smart Tourism course is based on key ICT, mobile communications, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality technologies, giving a clear understanding of the basic operational principles to broaden the necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications.
 
 
 
The minors in English, Korean and Chinese, will focus on in-depth training in the language, including field trips, and skills in:
 
- Dealing with situations when meeting customers and giving the tours
- Tour guiding in remote forests, mountains and at sea
- Effective communication skills, meeting customer expectations
 
DTU’s Hospitality programs are taught by highly experienced lecturers from many different countries, including Australia, Singapore and South Korea, to ensure that graduates are fully equipped with all they need.
 
Electrical Engineering, Automotive Electro-Mechanics, and Building Operation
 
The DTU School of Technology is offering a new major in Electrical Engineering and two new minors in
Automotive Electro-Mechanics and Building Management & Operation.
 
For safety and convenience, the demand for cars in Vietnam has increased enormously. Companies, such as Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Ford and Mercedes, have built factories here. Meanwhile, Vietnamese companies, such as Hoa Binh Auto, Auto Truong Hai, in the Chu Lai open economic zone, and most recently Vingroup’s Vinfast, are becoming brand names and adding to the development, leading to a sharp increase in the demand for automotive electro-mechanical professionals.

Training on DTU’s latest car mechanics machinery 
 
The DTU major in Automotive Electro-Mechanics is tailored to students who want to work in the design, manufacture, use and management of automotive engineering services, specializing in automotive electronics, with an ambition of progressing to self-driving electric cars. With such a practical education, automotive Electro-Mechanics graduates will immediately be qualified for hiring as: 
 
- Operating engineers
- Production supervisors of spare parts, accessories production and assembly, at factories and garages
- Inspectors at vehicle registration stations
- Sales staff in automobile, engine and auto parts businesses
 
The DTU major in Electrical Engineering will teach the design, operation and maintenance of power plants and transmission lines and particularly for wind farms, solar power and waste-to-energy plants. The program is a unique blend of the study of electrical systems and renewable energy, not available at most other local universities. DTU Bachelors of Electrical Engineering graduates will be able to work in hydropower and thermal power plants, wind farms, solar power plants, dispatch centers and in power operations at factories, industrial parks and high-rise buildings. 
 
The major in Building Management and Operations is now more important than ever for monitoring and maintaining construction work. More and more houses, high-rise buildings, condominiums, resorts and large-scale industrial zones are being built to meet current standards. Graduates will have a broad knowledge of management, business administration, corporate governance, customer relations and human resource management, as well as a basic understanding of building engineering, structure, engineering systems (MEP), operation and maintenance.
 
Hospital Management
 
With a population of one million, and increasing numbers of commuters and visitors from Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and other places coming to Danang daily, there is an increasing requirement for more and better healthcare in the city.

Imported training equipment for medicine, pharmacology and nursing studies
 
As a result, new public and private hospitals are now under construction in Danang and the Ministry of Health is implementing a five-year plan for a detailed structural overhaul of healthcare nationally, including the integration rural hospitals and health centers, together with new food and medicine quality controls.
 
This should solve many local hospital management issues, reduce patient overload and improve the quality of patient care. However, it has led to an ever-increasing demand for hospital management resources in Vietnam and many more institutions will be required to offer basic and advanced education in healthcare. 
 
DTU’s major in Hospital Management has been created with the objective of providing students with a scientific, in-depth education in the management and operation of healthcare facilities. Students will be trained in:
 
- Creating, organizing and running a medical facility, pharmacy or in hospital administration 
- Identifying and solving issues in healthcare organizations
- Efficiently managing medical staff
- Managing equipment, supplies, projects and partnership programs at hospitals, health centers and others, to ensure the highest efficiency levels everywhere
