The From Colleges to Battlefields Exchange Meeting

On November 28th, DTU held a meeting entitled “From Colleges to Battlefields”, with poet and playwright Hoang Nhuan Cam and students from the Social Science and Humanities faculty.

Poet and playwright Hoang Nhuan Cam

Mr. Cam talked about his life as a soldier. In September 1971, he and other young people, including Nguyen Van Thac, the author of “Forever Twenties”, left college to join the revolution of Independence. The battles of the hot summer of 1972 wrecked the Quang Tri Citadel and took away his beloved brothers forever.

Despite heavy gunfire, people still kept their faith. They lived, fought hard and believed that victory would soon come.

Poet Cam mentioned his brother Nguyen Van Thac, who died in the battle of Quang Tri at the age of 20, after one year in the army.

“I will never forget what he pronounced in his final moments, What a pity that I cannot fight any more, many plans are still incomplete.” he said.

The diaries of Nguyen Van Thac, Dang Thuy Tram, Vu Xuan and Hoang Thuong Lan serve as valuable lessons to the youth of today and motived Poet Hoang Nhuan Cam to write a film-script about his peers who left college to flight for their country.
